The images head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay.
We see in vs 39 of Daniel chapter 2 Daniel explains that King Nebuchadnezzar was the head of gold in verse 38 and verse 39 and after there shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. Today we are looking at the third kingdom represented by the brass .
We have learned from history and from the Scriptures that third kingdom was Greece. The Greek Empire is most well-known for Alexander the Great. However, the Greek Empire reigned from 331 BC to 146 BC. Regarding Alexander the Great, he was a student of Aristotle. We also see a lot of false gods through Greek mythology. We learn that the Apostle Paul had problems with the Greeks in Acts chapter 9 verse 29, scripture says and he speak boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.
Macedonia was a Greek city and in Acts chapter 19 verse 21 scripture says, after these things were ended Paul purposed in the spirit when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia to go to Jerusalem. Paul explains in verse 24 there was a silversmith named Demetrius which made silver shrines for Diana, a Greek god. Demetrius gets saved and the Greeks get angry with Paul because they cannot make money off selling their little statues.
The question one has to ask is, if a nation is a Christian nation, why would they teach Greek mythology to students? Mythology by definition, is the study of myths. Greek mythology is the study of myths about false Greek gods.
One interesting point is when Babylon lost power, they were conquered by the Medes and the Persians. when the Medes and the Persians lost power they were conquered by the Greeks. Next we move to the legs of iron which represent Rome and we know Rome along with Caesar were in power at the time of Jesus Christ. Until next time have a blessed day.
Daniel tells King Nebuchadnezzar the image of his dream represents nations. Daniel told the king the head of gold represented him and Babylon. In Daniel chapter 2 verse 36 through verse 45 Daniel explains the dream. In verse 39 Daniel tells King Nebuchadnezzar, and after thee shall arise another Kingdom inferior to the, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: for as much as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
So who was the second Kingdom? the 2nd kingdom was represented as silver in the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had seen in his dream. According to Scripture and history the 2nd kingdom was the Medes and the Persians. this was in the time frame of 539 BC through 331 BC, about 200 years. This was also the time we hear about Cyrus and Darius.
If you look at an old map of the Middle East you see the area of the Medes is today what we call North Iran. The Persians included a part of modern-day Iran part of Pakistan and part of Afghanistan. You also find Elam mentioned as part of the Persians and Medes in Isaiah chapter 21 verse 2. Elam is an area in Iran that prophecy expert Bill Salus has written a book about. There is a nuclear power plant there and Bill believes there will be an earthquake or an explosion at the power plant and you can read about Bill’s studies about Elam just Google Bill Salus and Elam or watch the videos on YouTube.
The Medes and Persian Empire ended about 331 BC which means about 330 years before Jesus Christ came. You also find Queen Esther live during this time in the book of Esther in the Old Testament. next time we will look at the belly of the image Daniel explained to King Nebuchadnezzar.
We see in Daniel chapter 2 verse 28 Daniel tells the king Nebuchadnezzar, the dream and the visions of thy head upon thy bed are these:
As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets make it known to thee what shall come to pass.
Daniel explains that the secret is not revealed to him for any great wisdom he has more than any other living man, but for those that know the interpretation.
Thou, O king sawest, and behold a great image. This great image whose brightness was excellent stood before thee: and the form thereof was terrible. This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till a stone was cut without hands which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them in pieces. Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors and the wind carried them away that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
This is the dream and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king.
Thou, O king art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory, and wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
Chapter 2 gives the dream and the interpretation of the dream. we have to look at Babylon where King Nebuchadnezzar was ruling. Nebuchadnezzar rules Babylon from 605 BC to 539 BC. Remember, the Gentile calendar pivots at the birth of Christ. So all the years before Jesus Christ was born is BC and the years countdown from high numbers to zero, which is when Christ was born. BC is before the Common Era. After Christ was born, was crucified, and rose from the dead is AD, after the death of Christ. So we know King Nebuchadnezzar lived about 600 years before Jesus Christ was born. Isaiah the prophet mentions Babylon in Isaiah 14:4.
So King Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon represent the head of gold in the image that Daniel saw. We also know the time frame God has given, which is 605 to 539 BC. We will pick up the silver from the image in our next post.
The last time we saw King Nebuchadnezzar, he sought out magicians and astrologers and sorcerers to tell him what his dream was. He tells them I had a dream that troubled me but when I woke up in the morning I could not remember my dream. Tell me what did I dream and what does the dream mean, and if you do not tell me I will kill you.
What did the magicians and astrologers and sorcerers tell the king ? Daniel chapter 2 verse 10 the Chaldeans answered before the king and said there is not a man upon the earth that can show the king the matter: therefore there is no king, lord, or ruler that asked such things of any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean. And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is none other that can show it before the king except the gods whose dwelling is not with flesh.
Verse12, For this cause the king was angry and very furious and commanded to destroy all of the wise men of Babylon. And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain. So Daniel asked Arioch, captain of the kings guard, Why is the king slaying the wise men of Babylon? Arioch told Daniel why.
Then Daniel went in and desired of the king that he would give him time and that he would show the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah also known as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
Daniel told his friends that they should desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret: that Daniel and his friends should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
Verse 19 of chapter 2 in the Book of Daniel, God Almighty reveals to Daniel king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and what it means. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel , how? in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said blessed be the name of God forever and ever for wisdom and might are his: And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings and sets kings: he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee and praise O thou God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast made known unto us the king’s matter.
Daniel went in unto Arioch and said to him bring me before the king and I will show it to the king the interpretation. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste and said I have found a man of the captives of Judah that will make known unto the king the interpretation. And the king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar in the Babylonian tongue, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I had seen and the interpretation thereof?
Daniel answered in the presence of the king and said cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king ?
But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these:
We will pick this up next time.
Chaldeans from Iran, Iraq, Syria and modern day Turkey area.
We find Israel has been carried into bondage in Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar is ruling Babylon. We saw last time that Daniel and his three friends were in captivity and placed in the king’s palace.
So one night King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream. His dream troubled him greatly. In Daniel chapter 2 verse 1 we see Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, and his spirit was troubled and his sleep brake from him. So the king could not sleep and woke up troubled by the dream.
So pretend you are the king. what would you do? You go to bed and sleep and you wake up troubled by a dream that you had. The dream really bothered you and it woke you up however, when you woke up, you could not remember the dream, what would you do? What did the king do? Daniel 2:2,3 give us a clue.
Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the King his dreams, so they came and stood before the King.
And the King said unto them I have dreamed a dream and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.
Then spake the Chaldeans to the king, O king, live forever tell thy servants the dream and we will show the interpretation.
The King answered and said to the Chaldeans the thing is gone from me. The king forgot the dream. So you have a king who does not know the God of heaven and earth and he calls in all these people who “claim” to know spiritual and unknown things. He tells them to tell him what he dreamed and what his dream meant.
Verse 5 says the King answered and said to the Chaldeans the thing is gone from me: if you will not make known unto me the dream with the interpretation thereof, you shall be cut in pieces and your houses shall be made a dunghill. But if you show me the dream and the interpretation thereof you will receive of me gifts and rewards and great honour: therefore show me the dream and the interpretation thereof.
So what happened? We will find out next time but what an idea, if people who claim to know the unknown, if they can’t tell you what it is or the meaning, they would be put to death and their house wiped out.
So Daniel starts in Chapter 1- it says in the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem and besieged it. You can read about this back in the first and second book of Kings in the Old Testament.
What you’ll find is that Israel was divided into a northern kingdom and a southern kingdom and the Northern Kingdom went into idolatry first and God sent them into captivity because of their idolatry. The Southern Kingdom continued to follow the Lord for quite a while and this account in Daniel chapter 1 you will find in 2nd Kings chapter 24 verse 10 where it says, at the time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem and the city was besieged.
So in Daniel chapter 1 we see that the southern kingdom which was Judah went into captivity as well. I understand Jehoiakim was a king of Judah and Daniel chapter 1 the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into Nebuchadnezzar’s hand and part of the vessels of the house of God so you’ll find that the treasures and the vessels of the house of God Nebuchadnezzar got a hold of them. Babylon, many say, is current Iraq.
So now you have the Northern Kingdom in captivity and now the Southern Kingdom has been carried into captivity and then this is where we pick up with Daniel, where they are now in captivity .
You find King Nebuchadnezzar wanted to bring certain of the children of Israel and of King Jehoiakim’s seed and of the princes and wanted them to stand in the king’s palace. He was going to teach them of the Chaldean’s ways. Among these where the children of Judah, Daniel and Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The Babylonians called them by Babylonian names Belteshazzar for Daniel, Hananiah they called Shadrach, Mishael they called Meshach and Azariah they called Abednego.
Many have heard of the stories of these men with the fiery furnace and Daniel in the lion’s den and how God saved them through these trials. Daniel is a book of 12 chapters and a great read. But we however, are looking at the prophecies God gave to Daniel.
Which takes us next to a major prophecy which we will look at next.
What is prophecy and why study prophecy?
Why one should study prophecy – because it shows truth. There are all types of prophecies and prophets. There are true prophets of God Almighty and there are false prophets.
How do you know if the prophet is true or a false prophet? A true prophet of God will have 100% accuracy. Anything less than 100% accuracy is a false prophet – as the saying goes a little poison in a cup of coffee will kill you. The same is true with the Scriptures and Bible prophecy – a little false teaching with the Scriptures can send you to Hell. So what the Scriptures teach on how to go to heaven, in this age, is critical to learn if you want to go to heaven.

Over the next week or two we’re going to study prophecy. One of the main profits is Daniel and we are going to look at some of the prophecies from the book of Daniel. Now there are days and weeks and months mentioned in the Book of Daniel, so to prepare us to calculate the days the weeks and the months that Daniel mentions, we need to determine how long is a year on God’s calendar.
So if you look at Daniel chapter 12 verse 11 you’ll find, and we use only the King James Bible, Daniel chapter 12 verse 11 says and from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Now we have a time frame for a future event. We’ll continue from here next time.
