Happy New Year 2016

I want to take this time to wish all my followers, supporters and readers a very Happy New Year and say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I truly appreciate each and everyone of you.

Scripture set out the first month of a year to be Nisan which is equivalent to April, see Exodus 12:2 and Esther 3:7. But many use a Roman style calendar called a Gregorian calendar which is a calendar first introduced in February 1582 by Pope Gregory 3rd. They call that a “Christian ” calendar but there is nothing Christian about it, it is a Catholic calendar.

So as most of the western world celebrates the new year, I pray God will bless each of you and open your hearts and minds to Jesus Christ and God’s word because that is where you will receive victory.

God Bless

See you next year.

A New Year’s Challenge

I will always be thankful to God for putting me in an independent fundamental church when I got saved and knew absolutely nothing about him, his ways or his teachings.  For 27 years I knew nothing about God or religion.  All I knew was there was this guy named Jesus who died on a cross to pay for sin and then he rose from the dead. I thought I was a pretty good person and I didn’t need to know more.

As I mentioned before, the pastor that led me to the Lord came out of an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church and because I had lived all over the country I always attended Independent Fundamental Baptist churches. God grounded me in “sound” doctrine.  But later God would show me the Baptists did not understand the spirit man, the Holy Spirit or how the Holy Spirit works in and through our spirit man. The Pentacostals didn’t either because they were so hung up on if you could “speak in tongues”.

People seem to mix faith and works and sin and grace. The bottom line is your spirit man, since being born again, saved, does not sin. God the Holy Spirit lives in you and revived your spirit towards God. How can two walk together unless they agree? So your spirit man does not sin but your soul/mind, will and emotions and your body, your flesh can sin. That’s why Paul tells us to bring our body into subjection, subjection of what? The Holy Spirit, the power of God.

So all those verses that declare we are more than conquerors, I am the righteousness of God in Christ,  I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me all refer to our “spirit man”. You see, In whom ye trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation and when you believed, the Holy Spirit sealed you, as Ephesians 1:13 tells us. We are to put off our old man, Ephesians 4:22,23 and now we have the power of the Holy Spirit working in us Ephesians 3:20 which makes us, our spirit man more than conquerors.

God has delivered all believers from the power of darkness and translated us into the Kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:13), the Kingdom of God which is “in” us as Jesus said in Luke 17:21. And just as he who is born after the flesh (unsaved) persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so is it now Galatians 4:29.  If you are really saved, a believer, you have the power of God working in and through you. You already have the victory if you believe it or not. How much victory?  Depends on your faith and if you believe “all” things are possible with God. How many times did Jesus tell people, your faith has made you whole. You can not see the power of God work in your life if you want to steer everything, if you can not let go and let God.

If we bring our body into subjection and work to grow our spirit man, we will overcome this present evil world.

Being led by the Holy Spirit may not agree with man’s ways. Paul explains this in Galatians 1:11-19. When God created you and me he put a purpose in each of us. If your purpose does not pay well you may decide to do something else, that pays better. Later you will realize you are not happy and fulfilled in life and you miss the blessings God set out for you in your purpose. But it is never too late to start living your purpose.

God’s ways are not man’s ways. If you want to get things, you have to give things first. Let me challenge you. The new year is going to start (on the world’s calendar not God’s calendar) so maybe make a list of things you would like God to do for you or give you in 2016. Then find out what others need or want and try to find a way to give it to them. For the whole year, set yourself to give others what they want or need and at the end of the year, check your list and see how God answered your wants and/or needs. You will be amazed.

Your flesh and soul will make excuses, but pray God the Holy Spirit lead you. It has been about a year or a little longer since I started praying Galatians 5:16,18,25 back to God. Lord help me to live in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit and be led by the Holy Spirit.

Paul tells us how to walk in the Spirit in several areas but just to name a few look at Ephesians 4 the whole chapter and in Ephesians 5 Paul tells us what our duty is as followers of God. Philippians 3 tells us of the spiritual mind. There are about 30 things Paul lists in 1 Thessalonians chapters 4 & 5 that tell us the will of God for us, for believers. And Ephesians 6 tells us how to fight evil spirits in verses 10-18. If you did just these mentioned, you would have your understanding enlarged.

You need to remember, the battles we fight are in the spirit realm and the battle is the Lord’s.  It is a battle between good and evil and we pick a side to join. If you read the book, you know who wins in the end, we do with Christ. Happy New Year.

Can We See Spirits

Ephesians 3:16 – God strengthens us in our “inner man”. And we believers are suppose to compare spiritual things with spiritual as Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:13. Because we have the mind of Christ,  1 Corinthians 2:16. And everything you and I do God is going to one day manifest, reveal it openly, 1 Corinthians 3:13.

God wants us to bring everything to him first. Is it to build his ego? No, he loves us like an earthly father loves his children, protects and cares for his children.  Friend, we are spirit beings living in a body. We are not the only spirit beings out there. God is the God of the spirits as Numbers 16:22 tells us. Another words God has ultimate authority over all.

But there are evil spirits and you find all types of spirits mentioned in the scriptures.  There is a lot mentioned about “familiar spirits”, these are what the occult, palm readers, summon and it is evil and forbidden by God for us to have any part of this.

Matthew 10:1 You have “unclean spirits”
Also see Luke 4:36, Acts 5:16, Acts 8:7, Revelation 16:13.

Acts 19:12,13 you have “evil spirits”

Revelation 16:14 we see there are “spirits of devils”.

1 Timothy 4:1 we see there are “seducing spirits”.

Angels are “spirits”. Hebrews 1:14.

Then we see there are 7 Spirits of God in Revelation 3:1, 4:5, 5:6.

Can we see spirits? Look at when the angel Gabriel came to Mary and announced she, as a virgin, would give birth to the Messiah. Mary even spoke to Gabriel and he answered her, see Luke 1.

An angel of God rolled the stone away from the tomb in Matthew 28:2.

In Acts God sent his angel to let Peter out of prison. The angel spoke to Peter, see Acts 12:7-11.

Angels can preach different Gospels as Paul warns in Galatians 1:8.

We know 2 appeared to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration and in Revelation 2 witnesses come.

There was a time I did not want to know about spirits and angels because it scared me. And of coarse my church never taught the scriptural teachings on spirits or angels. But spirits are all around us. Evil spirits try to trick or deceive us and God’s angels / spirits protect us. One day, we believers, are going to judge the angels as I Corinthians 6:3 tells us.

To mention all the angel appearances would be too exhaustive for this post because you have Michael and Gabriel as Archangels and then you have angels that came to Daniel, angels took Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah, there are Guardian Angels mentioned in Psalms 91:11, and many more. Angels are “spirit beings” as Psalms 104:4 says. God has his army of angels, two thirds of all the angels are on God’s team.

Just because you do not see an angel does not mean an angel is not present.

You never know if an angel is around.

If you live for your flesh desires and go to church once a week and that is your time with God, you have done your “duty”, you don’t know the half of what the “spirit” life is all about.  You are short-changing yourself and your growth is stunted.

The true Christian walk is a relationship with God on a daily basis where we talk to God all day long about everything. Until next time my friend. May the Lord give you understanding of truth. God loves you. Do you love him?

What Is Our Spirit Man Part 2

We have a “spirit man ” the Holy Spirit strengthens, Ephesians 3:16 KJV
“That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;” It is the Holy Spirit that gives us “power” his power Ephesians 3:20 KJV “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,”

Not only does the Holy Spirit give us power, but God has given us “gifts” as well, see Ephesians 4. My focus right now is not on the gifts but on the power. So let’s set the scene according to God’s word, not man’s teaching. In Acts chapter 8, just before Paul gets saved, you have a believer named Philip who is preaching Christ. You notice in Acts 8:3-40 Philip is preaching and miracles are being done but notice verse 7 mentions unclean spirits? These are evil spirits, and this guy Simon, who was into sorcery believes what Philip is preaching and gets saved.  Simon goes with Philip and sees the miracles done.

Then the apostles hear Samaria received the word so they sent Peter and John. Notice verse 15,  Acts 8:15 KJV “Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:” Then what did they do?

Acts 8:15-17 KJV “Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
[16] (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
[17] Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Notice what Simon said to Peter and John?  Acts 8:19 KJV “Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.”

The power comes from the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit and they believed the Holy Spirit was received through the laying on of hands. Laying on of hands we will discuss later but now we are looking at the power of the Holy Spirit working in believers. According to Paul, once we believe on Jesus we receive the Holy Spirit  (Ephesians 1:13) and the power of the Holy Spirit works with our inner man (Ephesians 3:16,20).

Paul then explains our battle is not with flesh and blood. Friends, if you know it or not, you and I fight against evil spirits in the spirit realm. When’s the last time you heard that taught at your local Baptist or Pentacostal church? I asked God one night, how do I fight something I can not see? I heard him, I do mean literally,  say, with the word.

I know evil spirits can not hurt me because 2 Timothy 4:18, and 2 Corinthians 10:4. So if evil spirits cannot hurt me, how do they attack? I know my spirit serves God, my spirit is born again, revived. I also know the Holy Spirit is in me and greater is he who is in me than he that is in the world, 1 John 4:4. So evil spirits cannot affect my spirit man. Can evil spirits affect your soul, your mind, will and emotions? Can evil spirits affect your body? Clearly the answer to these two questions is yes. Even a Christian. That is the warfare Paul was explaining in Ephesians 6.

There is no place in scripture that shows or says that a blood bought, born again, bible believing Christian can be “possessed” by evil spirits. But Christians can be “influenced” or be “tormented” by evil spirits. Tormented means extremely teased or harassed.  Where does this harassment happen? Mostly in the mind (the soul) but can also be the body the flesh, but not your spirit.

I believe most if not all mental “diseases” are really evil spirits tormenting people, based on scripture and scripture gives several examples.

The way we fight these harassments in our body and our mind is by using scripture.  How did Jesus fight Satan when Satan went after Jesus in Matthew 4? Jesus quoted scripture at Satan. How do we fight? We are to quote scipture out loud at any attack from evil spirits.

How do you know if you are under attack from evil spirits?  Paul says in  2 Corinthians 2:11 KJV “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” Are you? Are you ignorant of Satan’s devices? I was. As a saved Christian I did not know for nearly 30 years how Satan works. It was never taught in my independent fundamental Baptist church, for 30 years. And when I thought I would really try to learn more about the Holy Spirit and visited a Pentecostal church for 2 years, I didn’t learn how evil spirits attack nor did I learn much about the Holy Spirit because their focus was on tongues and healing, not our spiritual warfare. Most of my teachings and learnings have all come from the Holy Spirit.  I have spent a lot, a real lot, of time reading and studying scripture and prayer asking God to show me the truth. I told God out loud, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would guide us into all truth. I pray you fulfill that promise for me. He has and he continues to fulfill that promise.

We are told to renew our mind and this is a daily thing because attacks from the devil and his evil workers is daily. If you stand fast and fight back God’s way, Satan and his evil spirits will leave you alone, for a while. Just like they left Jesus alone for a while. Friend, if you are a believer and you stand fast with the Lord Jesus Christ and you will not quit, bend or give in, Satan is going to take notice and so will his evil spirits.  Satan will get to know you and he already knows God Almighty has a hedge of protection around you, just like God put a hedge around Job and God put limitations on Satan when it came to his children.

Look at Acts 19:13- now Paul is saved and preaching. Again we have exorcists  (people who pretend to expel evil spirits ) these exorcists called people to them that had evil spirits and the exorcists, in the name of the Lord Jesus saying,

Acts 19:13 KJV “Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.”

Look what the evil spirit answered in Acts 19:15 KJV “And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?”
You will not hear that preached in a Baptist church. Oh they will read the verse but they do not preach or teach about evil spirits.  I am not knocking them, I am speaking truth. The point is the evil spirit knew Jesus and knew Paul but these exorcists were phonies not real believers at all.

What happened to the phony exorcists?   Acts 19:16 KJV “And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.” The evil spirit leaped on “them” on the phonies, the exorcists. And what happened? The exorcists went out naked and wounded. They did things that a person in their right mind would not do.

We fight evil spirits that attack our mind and flesh and try to get us to quit on God. They hurt, they injure, they bring depression, they give wrong ideas, they play head games with you and they lie to you because their boss, Satan, is the father of lies.

Pray God help your spirit man and your soul to know when you are under attack. Don’t forget, Satan and his evil spirits are subtle and deceivers.  Then even if you know only one verse from scripture, rebuke Satan out loud and quote that scripture.  Use one Jesus used, Matthew 4:10 “Then said Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve.” Just keep rebuking and quoting scripture if you have to do it 10 times. It is a battle and we don’t always get an enemy on the first shot.

We will pick this up from here next time.

What Is Our Spirit Man Part 1

As I mentioned last time, Paul teaches us how to live in our house, our body, as spirit beings. He teaches the spirit life, spirit walk, spirit body and spirit living (and again, I am not talking about tongues and healing – see Journey Stop Paul .) Tomorrow’s post will bring this into focus – our spirit man.

If you are a born again believer, the Holy Spirit lives inside you. The Holy Spirit has given each of us power, power in the spirit realm, if you believe it or not. Some believers believe they have the power of God working through them in the person of the Holy Spirit and some don’t believe. What determines if you have the power? Jesus said, as you believe and according to your faith. So if you believe in your heart, you believe God, then you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart.

So what is our spirit man? I asked God to help me explain this in a way people “get it”. Remember the attributes of our spirit (see the post Connecting Your Parts where we show the attributes of our spirit, soul and body).

Our spirit man battles our flesh/body and our soul, our mind will and emotions. Our spirit man desires to do God’s will and what God wants but sometimes our flesh desires lust. The flesh desires are explained by Paul in Galatians 5:19-21 – in part, adultery, fornication, witchcraft, hatred, drunkenness, murders, revellings, etc. So we can understand Paul saying we have a constant battle we fight with our flesh/our body and our mind, our soul, in Romans 7:14-25.

But it is in our spirit is where we obey, and worship God. So when Paul says we are not in the flesh but we are in the spirit,  many people say, wait a minute, I am in the flesh, in reality, to God you are not. You are in the spirit if you are saved. Paul explains this in all of Romans 8. Paul teaches us if we will build up our spirit man, not our flesh, we will have victory.

In Romans, Paul lays the foundation for why we need to be saved, how to get saved and he teaches if you are saved, you are no longer in the flesh life, but the spirit life. The question is, what do you spend more time building up, your flesh life or your spirit life? How do we build up our spirit life? Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”. Faith is an attribute of the spirit and if you do not like spending time in God’s word, how will you build your spirit up?

When Christians spend 1-4 hours a week in church or studying God’s word and 70-80 hours in the flesh world, how can you overcome the problems in your life if you don’t learn how to deal with the problems God’s way.

Our spirit man is born again, revived once we get saved but it is our soul that is saved. Our soul is our mind, will and emotions.  The book of Ephesians explains we are in two places, our spirit is in heavenly places while our body is on earth. Our blessings are in heavenly places in Christ, Ephesians 1:3. Paul makes it very clear in Ephesians 1 that:
God chose us before the foundation of the world (verse 4).
God predestinated us to adoption by Jesus Christ, ( verse 5).
God would redeem us by the blood of Christ  (verse 7).
God Reveals the mystery of his will to us (verse 9).
That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he will gather those “in Christ” (verse 10).
That we have an inheritance  (verse 11).
And that after we get saved, God the Holy Spirit seals us proving we can not loose our salvation (verse 13).

The truth of the matter is we do not battle our flesh as much as we battle our soul, our mind, our will and our emotions. If Christians could learn to ask themselves is this a flesh matter, a mind thing (my prejudices, my experiences that have tainted my reasoning, or something I was taught ) or is it what God teaches me through the Holy Spirit before they act on a matter, they would have more success in their Christian walk. Look at Paul’s desire for the church to “get it”.

Ephesians 3:14-21 KJV
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
[15] Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
[16] That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
[17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
[18] May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
[19] And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
[20] Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
[21] Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Our choice in life in this world is do we live the life we want or will we let the Holy Spirit direct us into God’s will for our life. The choice is yours to make. All our battles in life are battling our flesh, our mind and the spirits of evil. Next time we will put this spirit man understanding into practical examples. God loves you and that is why he sent Jesus. Have you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Until next time my friends.

Our Spirit

Scripture clearly shows a shift from Old Testament to New Testament.  God has impressed me to share with my readers what he has taught me to help you understand the life in the Spirit. I am not talking about tongues and healing.  I am talking about our spirit walk in this world, in Christ.

In the Old Testament God dealt with everyone but his chosen people were clearly Israel, see Amos 3:1-3 “Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
[2] You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.
[3] Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Israel rebelled against God many times and God the Father writes a bill of divorcement see Jeremiah 3:8 KJV
“And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.”

This opens the door for Jesus Christ as the “bridegroom” to prepare to marry the church, the bride of Christ. It is not that God has thrown Israel away, and the church has not replaced Israel as some teach. It is a shift though. God did many signs and wonders for Israel and they saw the signs and many believed because of the signs. But when Jesus, God manifest in the flesh, came and did “signs” (heal the sick, restore sight for the blind, raise the dead, etc.) some believed and many did not believe. Had the Jews received Jesus Christ as their Messiah, the Millennial reign would have started but they rejected Jesus as their Messiah.  So God turns from the Jews to the Gentiles to provoke Israel to jealousy not abandon them. That is when the “shift” began. Jesus knew the Jews would reject him and that’s why Jesus was telling his disciples the Holy Ghost, the Comforter was coming in John 15 & 16.

The “shift” was from “signs” which were given to Jews/Israel (for Jews/Israel require a “sign” see 1 Corinthians 1:22 KJV “For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:”) to the active working power of the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit working in and through all believers.  The shift was going from “signs” in the physical earthly realm like in the Old Testament which Peter knew and lived to the New Testament church made up of believers of both Jew and Gentile.

So God calls a Jew named Saul of Tarsus who is a super religious Pharisee, Saul gets saved – he believes Jesus, and God changes his name to a Gentile name Paul and calls Paul to preach to the Gentiles to provoke the Jews to jealousy.

So now we have Paul, filled with the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit and power of the Holy Spirit. Paul was now preaching salvation is by grace through faith and no longer works. Paul focuses on the spirit man and he teaches on our spiritual battles, spiritual life and spiritual walk.

Spirit is mentioned 504 times in scripture.  Of those, 243 of them are in the Old Testament. The Old Testament has 929 chapters and spirit is mentioned 243 times in 929 chapters meaning about every fourth chapter the spirit is mentioned.

The New Testament has 260 chapters and spirit is mentioned 261 times. The 4 Gospels have 89 chapters and Acts 28 chapters and spirit is mentioned 89 times. And half of Acts is Paul’s journeys. In Paul’s letters, Paul mentions spirit 134 times out of 100 chapters.

Jude, Peter, James and John wrote 43 chapters and spirit is mentioned 38 times.

Clearly Paul’s message had a lot to do with our spirit man and the Holy Spirit. Paul teaches we are spirit beings that live in a house, a body. But one day our spirit man will separate from our body, our spirit man is going to move out of our house and into eternity.  And your type of life you have in eternity is based on what you did in your house, your body.

Paul teaches us how to live in our house. He teaches the spirit life, spirit walk, spirit body and spirit living (and again, I am not talking about tongues and healing – see Journey Stop Paul.)

In our next post we will look at our spirit man. If you are a born again believer, the Holy Spirit lives inside you. Our choice in life in this world is do we live the life we want or will we let the Holy Spirit direct us into God’s will for our life. The choice is yours to make. All our battles in life are battling our flesh and the spirits of evil. Until next time my friends.

Why Am I Here?

God gives us all life. Some live for 70 years and others may not make it to one year or maybe 100 years. The reality is even if you lived to be 150 years old, in 500 years, no one would remember you.  Even so called great men are forgotten.

So what is the purpose of it all? Why am I here? God gave me a life – for what? You can look at things 2 ways – the choice is yours because God made you with a free will.

One way to look at why am I here – I am born into a family – I have no choice. What I look like – I have no choice. I go to school to get an education in a field I have an interest so I can work all my life to have a descent and good life. And then I retire on a salary that will not support me or my lifestyle. Then my body wears down and is poked, prodded and pricked with pins and needles and I loose my hair, my teeth, my hearing and then I die and leave everything I worked for to others who may not appreciate my treasures. Along the way, you might have gotten married, had children, gotten divorced, changed career fields 5 times or not.  So what is the purpose?  Why am I here?

The second way you can look at why am I here is God created you for a purpose and he has a plan for you. You will like his plan because he created you with that plan in mind. God put this plan into your heart. And if you choose this way, you will have another choice to make.

If you understand that God created you and gave you gifts and talents that are perfect for you alone, you have to choose to use those gifts and talents or not and if you choose to use them, will you do things the way of the world or God’s way. God’s way may not be the easiest but it is the most fulfilling.

Your interests, gifts and talents God planted in you when he made you. Yes you may need to learn or be taught and get educated in these gifts and talents. Musicians, electricians, computer techs all started at the beginning and were taught.

God has given you special gifts and talents so you will one day use those gifts and talents to bless and help others. To teach others as someone taught you. Some people do this selfishly hoping to get all they can and others give unselfishly.  The choice is yours.

Because mankind is made up of a spirit, soul and body – 3 in 1 – just like God is 3 in 1 – each part of us make us who we are. Your spirit you has a great desire to know God and spiritual things. Look at Understanding Our Spirit Man Part 1 and Understanding Our Spirit Man Part 2

Our body, our flesh, is nothing more than a house for our spirit and our soul. Just like the houses on your street – houses come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors, so does our body. God gave you a house – a body for your spirit and soul. It is not that the house is so important, it is what is inside the house. There is a saying that says a house is a house until someone moves in and makes it a home. So what’s in your house?

Then you have a soul. Your soul is your mind, your will and your emotions. And according to God, it is your soul that goes to heaven or hell, (see Proverbs 23:14, Acts 2:27,31) it is the soul that determines if you go to heaven or hell Psalms 19:7 KJV the soul (our mind, will and emotions ) needs conversion.

Most people make decisions in life based on two things:
1) Their mind (their soul) and what they think or believe.
2) They make decisions based on their spirit, what’s in their heart.
And again, the choice is yours. So what influences your decisions?  Helpful tools may be:
