A Flesh Or Spirit Decision
We have all these people walking around on earth. All are spirit beings living in a body. Some of these people are saved, “in Christ” and many are not saved. When you look at how both types of people make decisions you see how the spirit, soul and body work differently in each group.
How does a lost person, one not “in Christ”, make a decision? Lost people make decisions based on their flesh and their soul. The flesh is their 5 senses – what they hear, taste, touch, smell and what they see. And soul is their conscience, imagination, affections, memory and their reasoning.
A saved person, one “in Christ”, is suppose to make decisions based on the spirit, not the soul or flesh. The spirit is prayer, faith, worship, praise and hope. Problems and confusion come when Christians make decisions based on their spirit and their soul or their flesh or they leave out their spirit and wonder why they can’t hear God.
I have heard many people say, I prayed about this or if you think I want to do this, you’re wrong, I do this because I think God wants me to. I am not here to judge the motive of anyone’s heart, I Corinthians 4:5. But if the matter is principled in the Word of God, the decisions are easier.
Example: If you know your public education system is going to educate your child in ungodly things, promote evolution which goes against God’s word and teaches immoral behavior is acceptable, so you, thru prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving make your request to God to homeschool – that is a principled decision based on God’s ways. Proverbs 3:5,6 tell us as parents to train up our children in the way they should go. If you train them up God’s way and in God’s word, they, when old, will not depart from that training. But if you turn your children over to a secular, ungodly group to train your children, you also know, when they get old, they will not depart from that either.
We make a conscious decision to do things God’s way or not. So if you are making your decision based on spirit, then whatever the answer and decision, it can not fail. Need some examples?
Gideon beat an army of hundreds of thousands with 300. The walls of Jericho fell with God’s people carrying candles and shouting. David kills Israel ‘ s enemy Goliath with a stone. Remember when David said you come to me with your swords but I come in the name of the Lord God Almighty? A spirit decision. The Apostle Paul was delivered with a basket. During the American Revolution, General Cornwallis said Americans were a “bunch of farmers with pitch forks”. After the Holocaust, a tiny nation who many tried to destroy was birthed again. Israel became a nation. When you look at these examples, you see a pattern emerging.
God uses what looks impossible to mankind to defeat armies, knock down walls and cities, kill evil people, protect his people, deliver his people and provide for his people.
So if you are trying to make a decision based on your soul or your flesh. Your thoughts and reasoning. You are going about it the wrong way. In prayer, we lay out our petition to God and know,
Philippians 4:6 KJV Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
We will pick this up next time and look at petitioning God his way next time. God loves you. A parent would never harm their child and God does not harm you. God does not make bad things happen to his children, he carries his children through the bad things. Until next time.
