Seeds of Trust or Abandonment
Looking at John 1:1-14 we see in John 1:1 Jesus is the Word. KJV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
John 1:14 KJV “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
If you read all 14 verses you see the Word was with God, the Word was God. All things were made by him and in him is life. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
Now notice in Luke 8:11 KJV
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.” Then look at Mark 4:21-32
And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.
 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it .
But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
Notice the grain of “mustard seed” becomes greater than any herb?
Then look at Genesis 1:11,12 “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
We have two things to understand:
1. The Word is seed
2. The mustard seed
The mustard seed is like a child. We plant seeds in our children and seeds were planted in you and me.
Not only are children seeds of their father, but their mother plants seeds in their children’s heart, Proverbs 10:1. KJV
“The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.”
The father plants his seed and as God says in Genesis, his seed will produce his kind. Then moms plant seeds in their children’s heart because it is mom that normally teaches the children. They teach their children how to walk, talk, personal hygiene, mom is a teacher, doctor, chef and maid.
When we all look back at our childhood and see the seeds planted. Some see seeds of happiness, encouragement, strength, trust, nurturing and others have seeds of abandonment, abuse, beaten, molested seeds. All of these seeds produce after their kind so you have generations of drug abuse, alcohol or sex abuse. You also see generations of happy, prosperous, blessed, loved and encouragement. We need to pay close attention to what seeds we plant in our children. No matter if good or bad seeds, the seed will grow and produce after its kind. If you don’t take care of the bad seed when it is small, it will grow up and you will need a bulldozer to pull out the huge roots.
We can all look back at failures of our parents. And some of us can look at our own failures with our own children. You may have a lot of gardening to do to correct some of those failures. The way you do that is with the Word. Not only with Jesus but also the word of God. If you do not stop cycles of “bad” seeds, you will have an overload of bad roots. For those with children now, remember, you are planting seeds in your children. Do you want your children to be honest, loving, truthful, loving God, following Jesus? Then you must plant those seeds. If you plant seeds of anger, unhappiness, impatience or seeds of helpfulness, working together, respect, you will have “trees” – grown children will produce likewise.
If you plant the seeds of God’s word, you teach your children to go to God and his word first when they have an issue or problem, when they grow up, they will be a strong tree following the Lord. Not only do we plant seeds with our children, but we plant seeds with our families, our co-workets, our friends and our church. Just remember, whatever seeds you are planting will bring a harvest.
2 Corinthians 9:6 KJV But this I say , He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
Galatians 6:7 KJV Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
