No Spirit No Eternal Life

As we continue looking at how the Holy Ghost aka Holy Spirit works with our spirit and with us, I asked questions as you can read in the post  Question 2.

When Jesus told Nicodemus, “Except a man be born again, he can not see the Kingdom of God” in John 3:3 – we learn – only people “born again” can “see” the Kingdom of God. So what is the Kingdom of God?

Jesus tells us in Luke 17:20,21 the kingdom of God is within you. And Paul explains what the kingdom of God is in Romans 14:17 “the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. So as John 3:3 says – how does one “see” this kingdom of God? It is not like seeing something with your physical eyes but I see, I understand. It is like telling someone, I see what you mean.  So Jesus was telling Nicodemus, except a man is born again, he is not going to understand the kingdom of God – righteousness, peace and joy “in” the Holy Ghost.

Note: There is a difference between the kingdom of God (it is within believers) and the kingdom of heaven ( which is the physical, earthly reign of Jesus Christ, on this earth).

Remember, when Jesus was teaching he spoke a lot in parables and it wasn’t until later he would explain things, only to his disciples. See Luke 8:9,10.

After Jesus rose from the dead we see Jesus sends people out preaching the gospel. In Mark 16:16 Jesus says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned. That settles it that God is not taking everyone to heaven like the world teaches. The interesting thing with Jesus’ statement is –  “believe and is baptized”.

Most people see the word baptize they think water. But baptize does not mean water. Baptize means immerse. There are 7 different baptisms/immersion in scripture. So what baptism is Jesus talking about? Well remember, Jesus is about to go back up to heaven in Mark 16 and Paul’s ministry is about to start. And Paul is the apostle to the church, and the disciples were disciples to the Jews. The church is made up of Jews and Gentiles as Paul explains in the book of Romans.

So not only are people to believe on Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour but then we have a baptism – an immersion. And when one has believed and been immersed they will “see” the kingdom of God. If someone says I believe in Jesus and then they are dunked in water they do not “see” the Kingdom of God. It is not until they believe and are immersed/baptized with the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit they “see“.

Look at 1Corinthians 12:13 “for by one spirit are we all baptized / immersed into one body.”  The Holy Spirit immerses believers into the body of Christ, the Church. Paul explains to the Ephesians in Ephesians 4:4-7 there is only one true faith, one baptism another words, 1 immersion. We know Paul was talking about – there is one baptism/immersion of the Holy Spirit and not water because the verse before that says, “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;” the context is the Holy Spirit. Water is never mentioned here.

So the Holy Spirit baptizes or immerses all believers into the body of Christ and that is the only baptism according to Paul, of the Holy Spirit. I am NOT talking about water baptism, that is mentioned in Scripture as water baptism.  This baptism we are looking at is the Holy Spirit baptism. And for the Holy Spirit baptism it is a one time event when we get saved or born again.

The Holy Spirit gives us access to the Father because of what Jesus did at the cross. Look at Ephesians 2:18 KJV
“For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” So how do we get this immersion/baptism
John 1:12 KJV “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Once you believe Jesus Christ is who he said he was and believe in his blood atonement and ask him into your heart to save you, then the Holy Sirit comes into your heart, not your soul (your mind, will and emotions ). See

Galatians 4:6 KJV
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

2 Corinthians 1:22 KJV
Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Then you have the Holy Spirit in you. You have been baptized/immersed with the Holy Spirit. And that is what Paul is referring to in Ephesians 4. That is what Jesus gave the disciples on the day of his resurrection when Jesus gave all the disciples, except Thomas, the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit, see:

John 20:22-24 KJV “And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
[23] Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
[24] But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

Notice they did not have to work for it, be good, obey the law, do penance, go to church, they only needed to believe and receive.

When I hear Christians pray for the Holy Ghost to baptize them with fire, I shutter. If you look at Matthew 3:11,12 and Luke 3:16,17 you see a baptism of water and fire but, read the next verse, the fire is going to purge out the chaff, the unbelievers. So the baptism of fire is for the heathen not the saved. So why do “Christians” who are suppose to know the word of God pray for the heathen’s baptism? A baptism of fire? A baptism of destruction? I don’t know.

So everyone who is a true believer is baptized/immersed with the Holy Ghost/ Holy Spirit. Jesus talked about this when he promised to send the Holy Ghost in John 14:16,17 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

Notice, ” shall be (meaning future tense, in the future) “in you”. So every true believer has received or been immersed with the Holy Spirit. So why do some teach the “gifts” of the Spirit and some say the “gifts” have ceased? I am glad you asked because that ties in with our other post Question 2  and this post.

If we are to know and understand our spirit, soul and body and how God deals with us and how God works today in this world, the Holy Spirit is key. And that is where we will pick it up next time. My hope and prayer is these posts are helping everyone who reads them understand some things about God, life and the joy and peace in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.

God loves you and sent his son to save you. Will you believe God and receive his free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord?
