Spotting Deception

As we in America gear up for an election I thought it is a perfect time to explore the soul more. No I am not going to tell you who to vote for or support, that’s your choice. But if we are going to be “led by the Spirit ” we need to know how to “hear” the Spirit. My mentioning the election is only for example purposes.

Why do people change their mind? We know our mind is part of our soul. We also know it is our soul (including our mind) is what goes to heaven or hell. It is the soul that gets saved when we believe on Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Speaking of Jesus, Peter says,

1 Peter 1:8-9 KJV  “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
[9] Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”

So why do people change their mind? All of us who are really saved thought differently before we got saved. We believed what we were taught as a child. But we came to a point where we decided we wanted to know more. So we searched out “things” to learn.

Just as we sought out information about God, about Jesus and how to get to heaven, we also search out truth regarding political candidates and many things in life.  Let’s face it, no one likes to be deceived. How would you feel if God told you how to get to heaven and when you died, you didn’t go to heaven? You would know God deceived you. But we know God is truth and can not lie.

Hebrews 6:18 KJV ” That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:”

But people do lie. And Satan is the father of lies.  John 8:44 KJV “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

How do we know who is lying to us? Evidence. What have they said and what did they do. People speak lots of words but they do what’s in their heart and mind. When it comes to saying we hate sin and then we turn around and sin in the flesh, we understand the battle of the sin nature we were born with. But when a person says something and they are trying to convince you and me of their point of view,  how do we know if they are lying or deceiving us? Evidence. Look at their record of “deeds”. What have they done? How do they live? Is God in their life? What do they say about Jesus?

Mankind looks at the outward things. An example would be candidates may have a lot or done good things. But as God looks at the heart, we too need to look at the heart and not judge on outward appearances.  Did the person do things for personal gain, do they have a record of honoring God, what is their private life like. Once we look at all facets of their life and what they have done, we are in a better place to not be deceived by fluff, extravaganza, money or words.

Thoughts by candidates are placed into our mind just as a thought is presented to us by God, Satan, family, friends, coworkers and others. We process the thought and decide if we believe the thought or not and if action is needed, we act on the thought. When we act on the thought it is now in our heart.

Once the thought is in your heart it influences your soul, your mind, will and emotions.  Remember,  the heart is the gateway to the soul. So hearing the Spirit lead and guide us into all truth, we need to have God’s word as our foundation and then look at evidence.

So as this political season winds up, ask God who you should support and use God’s word as your guideline, look at the candidate’s evidence, what they say verses what they have done and was there personal gain motivating their decisions,  has the person lied before, if yes – about what and how often and pray asking God to give you his wisdom, not your thoughts. Our thoughts are limited to the scope of our knowledge and understanding only. God’s wisdom is infinite.

The Find It Journey

Did you ever stop and think about when God says, times up, Judgment Day has arrived, what will happen? The people who say God would not send anyone to hell, have they ever found that in the scriptures? No. Why then do they think God will not send anyone to hell?

When we were 7,8, 9 years old, we thought about life one way. Then as teenagers we start to drive and can see more of this world and start to think of life differently. Then we get married, have children of our own, or not, and we start to think of life differently again. Once our children grow up and go out on their own, our outlook on life changes again. Some start to consider eternity at this point. During these times, some people have tunnel vision of their own life and their family. Others look at the big picture of life. In America, we know about God and the Lord Jesus Christ. But not many know God.

Matthew 7:13-14 KJV “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
[14] Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Define “many”. What does “many” mean? That is who is on their way to destruction. It does not matter if we believe that or not, it is what God says. I choose to believe God. But look at verse 14. The way that leads to life, few find it. So what does few mean? But the interesting word here is “find”. When you have to find something, is it lost? Misplaced? The word “find” indicates we must go on some type of a journey to “find” life. So does that mean the “many” that are on their way to destruction never took the journey to “find” life? Yup. Why didn’t they take the journey?

Imagine telling someone, you have to go on this journey. This journey will answer questions you have. Going on this journey will give you peace, joy, love, faith. It will give you encouragement and help you through life. This journey will give you life. How many people would say no thanks. Or, I can’t quit my job and take that journey. Or I’m too busy, I have to give up so much to go on this journey, my family won’t understand, my friends will think I went off my rocker. Sounds like the people Jesus invited to the wedding and they gave him all kinds of excuses why they could not come.

Friends, once we find life we start over. What I mean is just like when we were 7,8,9 and thought of life one way and as a teen we thought of life differently and so forth, when we find life it is like we are now babes in Christ. We are little children in “life”. We grow in Christ. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the “life” no man cometh unto the Father but by me. We start life afresh. We get a second chance. How many times I have thought, if I only knew about Jesus when I was growing up how my life would have been different. I thank God for showing me the path to “life” and I took the journey. How about you?

Until next time.

What Makes A Good Racecar

Many people struggle to find out their purpose.  Did you ever ask yourself,  why did God create me? What’s my purpose? As many of you know, I am a book person. I read directions and investigate things. When I got saved, I wanted to know what my purpose is. So the little detective in me started searching in God’s word. Do you know what I found? There is no chapter and verse telling me what my specific purpose is. Later I realized my musical abilities and my detective instincts were my “gifts” from God. And if I would use those gifts for the Lord’s glory, God would give me more.

God gave all of us unique gifts and talents just for us. Sometimes people get prideful and think they are the one making their world a success. But clearly it is God giving us the ability and then we know we are on the right track when we exercise our gifts with ease.

If we understand it or not, as a Christian,  it is God the Holy Spirit working through us.  So let me ask you a question. What makes a successful race car driver? Is it the motor? The pit crew? Is it the car?

A while back. Quite a while I might say, I liked car racing. I didn’t know much about it and I didn’t like the noise. But I didn’t like any kind of car racing, I liked something called Sprint racing. And I didn’t want to watch a bunch of cars go around in circles on a plain old track, I liked dirt racing. These Sprint cars are small cars with, what I call wings on top. And because it was dirt racing, these little sprint cars would come around turn four, on the dirt track, and you could see them wiggle their wheels to keep control in the dirt. Sometimes they would go up on two wheels.

Who would have thunk it. Someone liking classical music and symphonies likes dirt racing? Here is what a Sprint car looked like back then.

My favorite Sprint car driver was a man by the name of Will Cagle. Kind of like today’s Earnhardt, or Lagano.

What made a successful race car driver? Not the car, but that’s important. Not the pit crew, although they are crucial. And no, it wasn’t even the motor although we would go no where without one. It is the driver. Sure, there are a lot of drivers just like their are a lot of singers, musicians, teachers and so forth. The driver had a “gift” from God.

Just like Will had a great car, a good motor and a pit crew, we too have those who help us, our pit crew so to say. Those who believe in us, our dreams and abilities. And some even see you are gifted, from God. We all have God given gifts and talents. Things we are passionate about.

Just as Paul said, Ephesians 3:7 KJV
“Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.”  Friends,  let me encourage you to try something new for 2016. What are you really passionate about? You know, that’s the thing you would do if money was not an issue. Let me encourage you to set some time aside either every day or once a week to work your passion with prayer.

Try to think of, and pray for ways to use your gifts, talents or passions to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ. Just as God empowers gifted race car drivers, God empowers you and me through the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 3:20 KJV “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

Until next time.

Warning 1

My focus was on how angels interact with mankind, like in the book of Daniel.  But God sent me in a different direction today. One of the future roles of believers,  the saints, is judgment.

1 Corinthians 6:2 KJV “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?”

1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV “Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

As I looked at the many verses explaining how the saints are going to judge,  I was asking God how do we know how we are to judge?  The Lord showed me

Psalm 149:5-9 KJV “Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.
[6] Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;
[7] To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
[8] To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
[9] To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord .”

We know from Hebrews 4:12 the two-edged sword is the word of God. We are to use the word of God to judge.

Unlike courts around the world and unlike the American courts and the Supreme Court changing laws that were laid down in America based on the word of God, God’s word does not change. God always give warnings before judgment and God sends his people to warn the heathen. As the body of believers,  God’s people,  we need to sound the alarm and warn people now while there is time for them to repent and turn to Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation.

It is not that we don’t like certain people it is about obeying what God says, not man, not a court’s decision. Know ye not that we shall judge the world, as Paul said. Which brings me to Warning 1. The Word gay, when I was growing up gay meant  happy and those who committed crimes against nature were sodomites.  They arrest those engaged in sodomy with children and call them sex offenders but miraculously, once they grow up they call them gay?

Sodomy is a crime against nature and God. Read about it in Genesis 19, and
1 Kings 14:24 KJV “And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.” Do you see what God did with the sodomites? Cast them out. And Romans 1:26-32 KJV
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
[27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
[28] And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
[29] Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
[30] Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
[31] Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
[32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

Just because a court changes laws to go with the crowd or the world,  does not make it so. You and I need to stand up for the truth, God’s word and there may be a price we have to pay but we need to decide if we are going to warn people or hide under a bushel. We need to quote scripture and let God convict hearts. We are to judge matters as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6 so are you unworthy to judge these matters?

Where’s Your Dot

A municipality in today’s terms is a district of authority determined by a division of land and given power and authority by the people they represent.

A principality is the territory of a prince given title to a territory by a decree of a sovereign.

We know one of many names for Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. We also know that Satan is the prince and power of the “air”.  One of the great explanations of God’s wisdom is laid out in 1 Corinthians chapter 2. There are some keys and clues in this chapter where God speaks of the spirit world, eternity and the spirit man.

It rubs me everytime I hear a preacher quote  1 Corinthians 2:9 KJV “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

They stop after that verse and tell us we have no idea what God has prepared for us, believers. Many times I find myself yelling at the tv BUT – READ THE NEXT VERSE. Friends God does not leave us in the dark.

1 Corinthians 2:10-16 KJV “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
[11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
[12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
[13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
[14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned.
[15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
[16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

God does reveal these things unto us by his Spirit,  meaning by the Holy Spirit.  Well if people are not taught how to hear the Holy Spirit talk to them, how will they know?

Believers, by their own deliberate choices,  decide to believe God and believers actively rule their spirit, soul and body. For years I did what I thought was right. As I look back I now realize even as a believer I was in bondage to my soul, my thoughts, my mind, will and emotions. I could bend on my will and emotions but I did not understand how the mind played a role. I never realized   Satan attacks our mind, our thoughts. Talk about naive. I did not understand the prince and power of the air could influence our thoughts. Now I realize the spiritual man has his spirit liberated from the bondage of the soul.  Yes, if you are living your life based on what your mind tells you or what you think you are in bondage to your soul.

You are in bondage because you base your decisions on what your mind tells you and your mind is limited to the scope of your knowledge. But when you decide to believe God and God’s Word your scope increases to God’s wisdom and God’s knowledge not yours. Then your spirit man listens to the Holy Spirit and even if something does not make sense in your mind you know it to be true based on the Holy Spirit guiding you into all truth like John chapter 15 and 16 say.

What I find amazing is how so many Christians go about their everyday business and may say a prayer or two a day or may read a verse or two a day and maybe go to church and think they are spiritually living a spiritual life. Some even base their spiritual life on how many church activities they are involved with.  Why do so many people live for this world and the things in this world? So many want fame,  fortune and things of this world. Philippians 2:13 says God works in believers to will and do His good pleasure not our pleasures and not pleasure for us in this world. It’s like believers have blended their wants and desires into the world like unbelievers.

Friends, in the scope of things you should draw a dot on a piece of paper. Then from the dot, draw a straight line maybe 7 inches long and put a dot at the end. Above the first dot put Creation and over the last dot The End. Divide up your line with putting where Moses, King David and Jesus might have been on your timeline. Now put a dot where you are. Even when we look at great preachers like Billy Sunday, Paul the Apostle and even Billy Graham they are all dots in history like you and me. We only get one opportunity in life to make a difference.  If you spend your life on you and what you want what will you tell God on judgment day? Invest in God’s work. He pays eternal rewards.

Get Experience

You can think, I will use my hand to pick up this cup. You can think that all you want but until you act on moving your hand to the object, grabbing the object and lifting the object, nothing will happen.

When you look at the scripture Proverbs 23:7 KJV “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he:” You can think you are saved and going to heaven all you want but until you act on what God says you have to do to go to heaven – you are not going. That’s like thinking all you want,  I am going to pick up that cup. You have to act.

Now ask yourself – what made you think you could pick up that cup? How did you know your fingers would grasp the cup? How did you know you had the ability to lift the cup? Yes, you have experience in this. You have done it before and “it worked”.

It is the same principle as
Hebrews 4:2 KJV “For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it .” Faith is experience God is able.

Now, what if the object is not a cup? What if it is a 50 pound bag of feed? Or what if the object is a 200 pound man laying on the floor?

One day I was doing my research at a courthouse and my mother called me. She said her husband fell on the floor and she could not pick him up. My mother was a strong husky woman and her husband weighed about 230 pounds. So I asked her, is he hurt or in pain? She said no, but he could not get up and she could not pick him up. I said, give him an ice tea, turn on the television for him and I will be there in about 15 minutes or so.

When I got there I saw him sitting on the floor between his bed and the wall. I asked him what happened and what that smell was. He told me his foot was smelling and he wrapped it in plastic and fell. There is no way I can pick up a 230 pound man. So I prayed and asked God to help me,  help me get him up onto his bed. I wiggle my way behind him and put my arm around him under his arms. Then I said, okay God please help me lift him. I lifted him up and went to slide him on his bed and we both fell together onto his bed. My mom was standing there in shock.

We both paused to get our breath and then I asked him about his foot. Then I went out into the kitchen to talk to my mom and she explained he was hard headed and did not want to go to the doctor. My mom and I have been praying for his salvation for 22 years. He was not saved. I walked back into his room and said, Ron, you have to go to the doctor, the hospital. He said, I don’t want to go. I said calmly Ron, you have to go. He looked at me and said okay.

I move their van up to the back door and my mom and I help walk Ron to the van and we took him to the hospital. Come to find out he had sugar really bad and gangrene had set in to his foot. While he was in the hospital I asked  the pastor of my church if he would visit him and explained we have been praying for him for 22 years. Pastor Sam and his father went to visit Ron and led Ron to the Lord and Ron got saved. Then Ron came home and about 3 months later he died.

Friends, faith is not faith unless you act on it. If you do not act on faith then it is only a belief. I could have looked at Ron and said yes I believe God can help me lift Ron. But it wasn’t until I went behind Ron and wrapped my arms around him under his arms and asked God to help me lift him. That is when I exercised my faith in God and God’s ability to help me do something I knew I could not do on my own.

It is just like having experience in being able to lift the cup. What happens is when we ask God to help us do things, especially things we know we can not do, and God helps us, we get “experience ” and the more experiences we get the more our faith and trust in the Lord grows. Try it. Ask God to help you do things and get experience.

Generational Advances

I was wondering what changed in society that caused people to turn away from God. We know from history that when governments control everything in the people’s life, it leads to communism and fascism. What made America unique was it was designed as a Republic not a democracy  (majority rule). A Republic is a representative form of government and that is why we have the Electoral College,  delegates.

This is not an American history post. But as I said, what causes nations to turn away from God? America is my example. Republics have been set up before and history records when nations turn from an accountability to God and man (those who elected them), government grows into a behemoth. People then start trusting in government and not God. If this growth of government is not stopped, society becomes slaves.

So I wanted to look at generations and look for clues how God played an influencing part and who are some notable people during these times. At the end, consider what the effects of inventions play in society. This is not an exhaustive study but an overview.

I notice about 8 different generational times.

1) Before the Lost Generation – this is those born in the mid 1800s. People like Tesla – born 1856, Thomas Edison – born 1847, Karl Benz – born 1886, and Henry Ford – born 1863. These people came of age during the time of the Lost Generation.

2) The Lost Generation – These are WW 1 fighters. They were born 1883-1900. They were writers and composers, people like George Gershwin, Aaron Copeland, Ernest Hemingway.

3) The Greatest Generation – These people were born 1900 – 1924 and grew up fighting WW 2. They came of age during the Great Depression. During their time those born in the Lost Generation had invented the radio. Tesla was born 1856 and died 1943 and Marconi, a fascist,  was born 1874 and died 1937.

4) The Silent Generation – These were born 1925 – 1942. Some fought in WW 2, some Korean War. These are the parents of the Baby Boomers.

5) The Baby Boomers – These were born in 1946 – 1964. Boomers grew up in a time of affluence. They came of age in the mid 1960s through late 1970s.

6) Generation X – These are those born from 1960’s – 1980’s.

7) Millennials – These are those born 1980’s – 2000’s. These are the Baby Boomer ‘ s children.

8) Generation Z – Those born 1990s – 2025.

If we were to pigeon hole inventions, laws, supreme court decisions, religious leaders into their respective time frame and see what happened during their generation, we might understand what is causing people to turn from God.

When I looked at what was invented and when, I saw what generation played a key role in the invention. Most all of our modern day inventions were invented by the Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers. Here is a sample. I listed the invention and the year it was invented or attributed to what generation.

Radar Range 1946 changed to microwave oven in 1955 and the first countertop microwave oven in 1967.

Baby Boomers are attributed to inventing:
Satellite systems, remote controls, LED lights, lasers, cordless phones and mobile phones, computers came from the Silent Generation but Boomers invented the Internet  (computers speaking to computers) and the World Wide Web [ www. ] computers talking to computers on a global scale. Boomers invented the digital camera,  video games, wireless networks, email, micro processors, space shuttle, calculators, the birth control pill, telescopes for space.

Millennials have taken many of what their parents (Boomers)  invented and built on it or improved it.

So when we look at the writers, readers and composers era and consider those who invented the automobile, airplane, space shuttles, computers and modern appliances, electricity, running water, we can see man has created “things” that occupy one’s mind with computers and movements with travel and reading, writing and critical thinking have suffered.

So is Generation Z working on replacing mankind as God created man via robots, transhumans, bionic body parts? Where is God in that world?

Drones – First experiments started in 1849. In 1917 unmanned vehicles were improved. The drone was improved by Baby Boomers with remote controlled airplanes and the Predator Drone was first used in 1974. Today, drones are everywhere.

Until next time my friends.
