Souls or Things

God wants you to have ________________ , fill in the blank. When did the great commission change from winning the lost souls to giving believers “things” in this world?

How many times we hear, God wants to prosper us, he wants to give us our desires of our heart, God wants to do all these things. So people do what “preachers” say, they give money, they do all kinds of things.

I do not see anywhere in scripture where Christians are told it is all about us having every desire we want in this world. As a matter of fact, Matthew ends with Jesus telling believers to baptize those who become believers and teach what Jesus commanded.

Mark concluded with preach the gospel, (the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ ) and Jesus says signs shall follow “them that believe”. Jesus points out those who believe the gospel will be saved and those who do not believe will be damned.

And Luke ends with Jesus opening the disciples understanding of the scriptures.  He shows them that Jesus is mentioned in the law of Moses, the prophets and the psalms. Jesus then explains why he had to suffer and be crucified and rise from the dead.

And now, what are the disciples suppose to do? Preach prosperity? No. Preach healing? No. Preach tongues? No. Preach miracles? No. Luke 24:46-47 KJV “And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
[47] And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

The focus is to be on soul winning. Winning the lost. So many are preaching on gifts of the Holy Spirit, on wealth and prosperity and very little preaching on getting saved.

John concludes with Jesus telling disciples to feed his sheep.  And Paul? Paul makes it clear God not only separated Paul, but all believers unto the gospel. And,  Romans 1:16-19 KJV
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
[17] For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
[18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
[19] Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.”

Friends,  living as a real Christian is not about us having a cushy life, it is about the gospel of Jesus Christ unto salvation. Clearly God has laid out principles in his word and if you follow God’s principles, you will get good results. But our mission and purpose is to win the lost. It is not about America, or wealth or health, gifts, prosperity or any other “thing”. It is about winning the lost.

Just as Paul warned Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:1-5  –  I want to say, there are a lot of false, fakes out there. If their message is to get your money for a “blessing”, they are liars. God can not be bought. Win the lost my friends, win the lost to Jesus Christ for eternal salvation.

Until next time.

      Thanks g. Yes, the focus is on winning souls. God did bless Abraham and give him wealth and King David, Solomon and many others, but Paul gave up everything to win the lost. The question is what are we willing to give up or loose, to win a lost soul to eternal life in Jesus Christ. Thank you for your comment.
