How old were you when you got saved? All the years you lived before you were saved you did what you think. You made decisions on what you think. You raised your children on what you think is best. That is soul living. Soul is your mind, will and emotions. You lived and made decisions based on what you think, your will for your life and your children and your emotions.
All of us, mankind, starts life living according to what they think. They are soul living. Why? Because their spirit is dead to God. When God told Adam he would die in Genesis 2:17 it wasn’t physical death but spiritual death. Imagine the relationship Adam had with God before he sinned.
When we are born we are born in Adam’s image. Another words, with a sin nature and our spirit is dead to God. We live according to what our soul says. We make decisions based on what we think. On this political year, people pick their candidate based on what they think not what the word of God says. Even some Christians who have a live spirit still live based on their soul, what they think.
Scripture calls the “unsaved man” , the man living according to his soul or what he thinks, a “natural” man.
1 Corinthians 15:44-45 KJV “It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.”
And we know the “natural” man can not receive the things of the Spirit of God.
1 Corinthians 2:14-15 KJV “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”
I ask again, how old were you when you got saved? All of those years your spirit was dead to God. Your soul was in control of you. Your soul ( your mind, your will and your emotions ) controlled everything in your life. But once you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive him as your Lord and Saviour your spirit is quickened or made alive unto God. Ephesians 2:1-5 KJV “And you hath he quickened , who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)”
Once you get saved you are alive unto God your spirit is made alive unto God and God tells us to be led by the Spirit now, not our soul. You basically fire your soul. Soul You’re Fired! We are told to live in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit and be led by the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5:16, 18 and 25.
Do you think your soul is going to be happy with this new arrangement? Your soul / mind has been your boss for years and now you tell your soul you have been fired. Now, God the Holy Spirit is in control working and speaking to your spirit to direct you. That my friend IS the Christian battle. You have been taught things from the world. Taught how to react and respond to things from the world’s point of view. You have been taught to think like the world. The world even told you if you are good and don’t kill anyone you will go to heaven when you die. But when you hear God’s word and see the world lied to you compared to what God says, you make a decision who to believe.
When you choose to believe God and his word over all others, and you get saved, you now have your spirit quickened / made alive to God and God directs you, cares for you, provides for you, loves you unconditionally. But things come up in life where we don’t know what to do, how to handle something. What the right decision is. Which way to go. So we are to lean on God, listen to God and be led by the Holy Spirit.
But if pastors and churches do not teach how to be led by the Holy Spirit either because they do not know, are afraid of the spirit realm, don’t want to be called denominational names or whatever, then how will the people know? The Christian battle is learning to bring our mind and body into subjection. How do we do this? We have to, we HAVE TO, renew our mind. Romans 12:2 KJV ” And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Ephesians 4:23 KJV ” And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
This renewing our mind is a daily thing,
2 Corinthians 4:16 KJV ” For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
The Christian battle is on – in renewing their mind. Satan throws darts and plants thoughts in your mind to get you off track. And we will pick this up next time. We will look at Christians living a carnal life and making their decisions based on what they think, not the Holy Spirit leadings. Have a blessed day.
