The Ditch of Tradition
For years I heard preachers speak against the church blending in with the heathen. How believers are not to yoke or bind themselves with unbelievers in anything ( 2 Corinthians 6:14-18). But in many areas you can not tell true believers from unbelievers in a church.
Looking back, you see how morality has plummeted and have to ask, why? If “preachers” were preaching holiness and follow God, why has morality plummeted? Even President Obama, who “said” he was a Christian, but has supported the Muslim Brotherhood, says ISIL instead of ISIS (Saying ISIL means the Levant or no Israel. Deny Israel their God-given land) and he has promoted ungodly programs like promoting sodomites. Yet, much of the church, including pastors, are not speaking up against this, why?
Jesus addressed this in Matthew when he was speaking to the scribes and Pharisees. Jesus was speaking about how they were treating their parents but had a deeper point.
Instead of honouring their parents, they provided for their parent’s financial needs. Kind of like paying your parent’s bills and saying you are honouring your parents by taking care of their needs financially. Jesus said that was not honouring your parents, it was buying them off. You can read this in Matthew 15 but also Mark.
Mark 7:9-13 KJV “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free .
 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”
The question is why. Why didn’t “religious” people honour their parents? Why did they pay off their duty? Why did they try to buy their duty before God?
One word, tradition. They had traditions they chose over God’s word. Today, even Pastors will choose traditions over God’s word. And now, some pastors will choose what is politically correct over God’s word.
What does Jesus say about this? Matthew 15:8-9 KJV “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Pastors are the leaders of the flock and if pastors will not stand up for God and God’s word, how will the people?
Christians look at what is their “theology” and determine if they will listen to what the person is saying. I know, I use to do that myself until God showed me not to. Just because someone does not believe the way I believe but they stand on the fundamentals of the faith, like Paul says, we all have a doctrine. The foundations of the faith are key but then there will be disagreement.
And Satan has focused the church on the disagreement so much the church becomes ineffective. No one is saying drop doctrine, especially me, I am a doctrine hawk. But if the church is so busy beating each other up, why would the lost, the hurting, the needy want to be a part of that? The church, led by pastors, has focused on tradition, what their denomination teaches. They have fallen into the ditch of tradition. And –
Mark 7:13 KJV “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”
So meantime, moral values plumet, divorce increases, sodomy is promoted, history is rewritten, homelessness grows, people go hungry and people have no place to look for help. The lost do not know how to connect with God and the saved listen to fighting, bickering, judgment and hypocrisy.
As an active church member I struggled for 10 years trying to just provide basics one time. In 10 years, only two times did my “church family” offer to give me a helping hand. Oh but they had a food pantry for everyone other than church members. Even recently, going to the church I am now going to, working in the church, participating in community outreach programs, and yes, tithing and when I had to take care of something I did not know how to handle, not one person from the church even called me to see if I was okay. I had a “friend” who would call and just say hi regularly and I would call them. I am not angry or bitter but it seems like many churches are interested in their denominations, their programs, their own ways. Meantime, people are hurting and suffering and even on their way to hell.
Friends, don’t fall into the ditch of tradition or God can not use you and show you his marvellous power.
Matthew 15:18-20 KJV “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.”
Until next time.
