Parts Are Parts

We understand the purpose of our eyes, our ears, our hands and feet and our internal organs like our heart, kidneys, liver, and other organs. All these “parts” have a purpose. We can understand these “parts” when it comes to our physical body, but what about our spiritual body?

Not only are we as mankind a body of humans made up of different “parts” (some educators, some labourers, some technical, etc) but each of us as individuals are made up of “parts”. We have internal parts and external. Internal or external parts, both affect our being.

In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul is comparing earthly – fleshly with spiritual  to make a point. Although we understand how all the different parts of our body have a purpose, do we understand the parts of our spirit man and the spiritual parts of the church, the “body” of believers?

Matthew 13 – Jesus is at the sea side and a bunch of people come to hear him speak. So Jesus gets into a ship and sat down. He tells the people the parable of the Sower. And in verse 9 Jesus concludes with, ” who hath ears to hear let him hear”. Did all the people at the seaside have ears? Most likely yes. So why does Jesus tell them he who hath ears to hear, let him hear?

Notice in Matthew 13:13 – they seeing see not, they have ears hear not. In Matthew 13:14-17 Jesus explains the parable. And look at verse 23 –
Matthew 13:13-23 KJV  “Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
[14] And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
[15] For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
[16] But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
[17] For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them ; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
[18] Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
[19] When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one , and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
[20] But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
[21] Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
[22] He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
[23] But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it ; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

We see 4 types of people:
~ One heard but has no understanding
~ One heard and received but no root
~ One heard but cares of the world choke and he becomes unfruitful
~ One hears, understands, bears fruit

Just as Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 12 the body of Christ  is made up of different parts, so is our spirit man. When you think about your earthly body you can readily name off your parts, can you do the same with your spiritual body?  We know our new spiritual body does not have blood like our earthly body has. Parts of our human body are like gifts given to us by God so our earthly body functions flawlessly. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 KJV  “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
[5] And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
[6] And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
[7] But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”

Not only do we learn from Paul how the body of Christ works from these verses but we see a pattern to how God sets things up. Let me try to explain.

Your eyes administer seeing.
Your legs administer walking.
Your heart pumps blood throughout your body. These are all “gifts” from God to mankind. Each of these gifts have an operation and administration.

Your eyes are like the “gift” from God. The eyes operation is taking light in and utilizing the cornea and retina to produce site so you see an image. Think of operations as the process. How something works.

So using the eye example – the eye is the gift. The eye administers sight. And the parts of the eye working together is the operations of the eye.

The same is true for our spirit man.
1 Corinthians 12:7 KJV  “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
If you were to look at two people and their life, what distinguishes them apart? They both look the same, have eyes, legs, heart, arms so what makes them different?

We will pick it up from here next time.

God Loves YOU

Just wanted to give you one thing to think on today and through the weekend. Friend, God truly loves you. He loves you so much he sent his son Jesus to die on the cross and shed his blood to pay for your sin. He then raised his son from the dead. Then he sent us the Holy Ghost to lead us, guide us, teach us and comfort us. Only those who believe God and his word and do things God’s way go to heaven. Will you?

Until next time.

The Seed Of Talent

We know about themes. By definition,  a theme is the topic or subject matter. We pick themes for our browser, our computers, and even our homes. We decorate according to themes. Even birthday cakes have themes. People have themes to their life. Some themes in a person’s life are generational.

It is like the Jewish guy whose father was a lawyer and his father was a lawyer and his father. The son says, dad, I don’t want to be a lawyer. Talk about shock and awe? God did not make us robots.

We can look at some people and have a good idea about their life theme based on their occupation. But what about those who are not doctors or nurses? We all have a theme to our life. Our individual themes come from God.

God created each of us with a seed of talent in something. For years I asked God, why am I here? What do you want me to do? I searched and really struggled with my purpose in life. There have been many books written about purpose in life and how to find your purpose.

Finding our purpose in life we seek through Guidance Counselors. Schools do aptitude testing. Even the military tests candidates to learn of their “natural inclinations”.

Our seeds of talent God created in each of us. Why? To help us through life. To guide us through life. But that seed of talent is just that, a seed. Like all seeds, they must be watered and given light or they will not grow.

Discovering your seed (s) of talent is really quite easy. What do you really, really like? If money was not an issue and you could do what ever you wanted to do, what would you do? That is a seed of talent. Cultivate that seed even if you have to cultivate it in your spare time.

Seeds of talent can also be areas of interest. Let me give you an example. I went to college to be a journalist. At that time in my life I was tinkering in music, taken aptitude tests that showed very high reading comprehension abilities and scored very high in data processing. I wanted to be a newspaper reporter, specifically print newspapers. It was not because I liked writing, I didn’t. It was the digging out the story that I liked. The investigation. When I realized stories were assigned or I had to cover things I did not like, I left.

My focus shifted to my inner love for music and real estate. Then the Lord got a hold of me. Now I wanted to know God’s will for me. For years I struggled with God, what have you called me to do. Not realizing 30 days after I got saved the pastor’s wife asked me to be their organist. I accepted. It never clicked with me that God was directing my steps.

Thirty years later it hit me. My seed(s) of talent. Music. Back when I started working in the music industry I knew I would not make a fortune in music unless I wanted to compromise myself, and I did not. So I ventured into real estate to make a living.

It has not been until the past three years I have understood that the seeds of talent God planted in me I did cultivate and use. I did bring forth fruit. The writing? God showed me it isn’t the writing but the research, the investigator in me. I dig and dig for answers. When I got saved, I would dig every day in God’s word.

You too have seeds of talent. Instead of trying to figure everything out ask yourself, what do I really like? Is it something specific? A product or a process? Talk with guidance counselors and take aptitude tests.

A good online resource is O Net Online where when you click on a category it opens the field and shows all the tributaries of that field. Click on one of the tributaries and that opens more tributaries. Pray and ask God to show you what way to go and to open doors for you. Remember, the seed is already planted in you. Make it grow. Until next time.

When I ventured into playing Christian music someone gave me a card. It is not about the beautiful flowers, but the words that deeply touched me. I wanted to share them with you so I posted them below.

Why Bad Things Happen

Why do kids run away from home?
Why does a drunk driver kill an innocent family?
Why does a “normal ” person go into a theatre or club and shoot people?
Why do husbands abandon their family? ( or wives sometimes).
Why do people steal children, sexually abuse them and or kill the child?
Why do “normal” kids go into satanism?
Why do people become terrorists?

People don’t just do things – there is a journey they take that brings them to a result or action.

For years the church declared ” it is sin in their life”. Society now calls it “mental illness”. If these answers were true, why aren’t all sinners doing these things? Or why aren’t all people with “mental illness” doing these things? Saying this is “mental illness” is nothing more than assigning an umbrella category when you don’t have an answer.  But God has the answer.

People don’t just do things – there is a journey they take that brings them to a result or action.

It is easy to use umbrella categories. It is easy to blame why some people are alcoholics or drug addicts or sex perverts on “they have a disease”. The word disease basically means imperfect,  impaired natural use of the body or organs. So tell me, if disease affects the body, how is mental illness a disease?

We are made up of spirit, soul and body.  In the truest form, disease affects organs and the body. But the soul is mind, will and emotions. Will and emotions are not a part of the body. You could argue your mind or brain is an organ but will and emotions are not. And when people decide to do evil acts, they choose to do the act. That is an act of the will.

People don’t just wake up one day and say I think I will molest a child today or gun down people in a theatre. People don’t wake up one day and say I think I will be a Satanist or a drug addict or an alcoholic. People don’t just do things – there is a journey they take that brings them to a result or action.

When you look at the 7 questions I asked in the beginning of this post, ask yourself,  what do each of these people have in common? Reread the 7 questions and see if you can find what these people have in common.

Someone or something planted a thought or idea in their mind. Each one of those people had to entertain the thought or idea. They thought about the idea or thought. When they choose to act on the thought or idea they are expecting a reward or gratification. Their reward? Revenge, pleasure, freedom, alleged power, relief, gratification,  escape. All of these  “rewards” affect their body or their mind and soul.

Your mind is not your soul. But your mind is part of your soul. Your soul is your mind, your will and your emotions.

So what do all these people have in common? Someone or something has influenced their mind and their soul. Job is a perfect example and explanation of this. Satan attacked Job’s family, wealth and body. Why? What was Satan doing? Satan was trying to influence Job’s mind and soul to cause Job to act against God. Satan caused Job a lot of trouble to influence Job. Satan could not force Job to do anything. Job would have to believe the influences from Satan and then act on what Job “thought in his mind”.

People don’t just do things – there is a journey they take that brings them to a result or action.

In Job’s case, Job lost his children, lost his wealth and lost his health. All this was done to Job to influence Job to react. Things happen to us in life. Sometimes, bad things. These bad things could send you on a journey you do not want to take. Often, when bad things happen to you – you are at a crossroads in life. How you respond can set you on a course of destruction or wisdom and victory.

Friends,  Satan is a deceiver and he tries to influence your thought process so he can John 10:10 KJV “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

People don’t just do things – there is a journey they take that brings them to a result or action.

The key? Galatians 5:16-25 KJV
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
[17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
[18] But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
[23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
[24] And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
[25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

People who make decisions based on what is influencing their mind, their will and their emotions are choosing a journey they may regret.

People don’t just do things – there is a journey they take that brings them to a result or action.

Seeds, Pits and Pit Wars

Someone said the other day, while holding up a peach pit, if you plant this in the ground you will get a peach tree. Farming and gardening is not one of my strong points. But I have experience spitting  watermelon seeds onto the  ground and noticed later, a watermelon plant or two.

My son and I use to have “Pit Wars”. After having a watermelon we would save all those seeds on a paper plate. Then he would sit at one end of the kitchen table and I would sit at the other. We would take one  seed off the dish, set it on the table and with the edge of our finger push hard on the back edge of the seed. The seed would shoot across the table and if the seed hit you, points were scored. Most points wins.

Reminds me of the time my niece was with me and I wanted to give people a good laugh, including my niece. I bought 3 bags of marshmallows. My niece and I bit off the ends of the marshmallows and pushed the marshmallows all over the exterior of my pick up truck. The doors, windows, hood, sides and rear and even the bumpers were covered in marshmallows. We stood in the parking lot looking at this green pick up truck covered in marshmallows.

When I told my niece, time to go she was shocked to think I was now going to drive this truck covered in marshmallows.  In front of other people.

As we approached the long bridge over the river I stopped at the toll booth to pay the woman the toll. She looked at the truck with big eyes. I made a comment and laughed, the woman taking my toll money started laughing and my niece was cracking up in the passenger seat. I wonder what the woman from the toll booth told her family.

Not only do gardens and orchards have seeds, but so does life. And not only the seeds of having children, but life itself.
Isaiah 54:1 KJV  “Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord .”

We have and plant all kinds of seeds. Just as seeds in your garden differ, so do the seeds of life you plant. That woman and my niece will smile every time they think of that day with the marshmallows on the truck. My son will smile when he thinks of watermelon pit wars.

Compare tomatoe seeds to corn seeds. Now add a peach pit. All three are seeds. You can plant all you want. But your harvest is determined by 2 things:

~ Where you plant
~ Controlling bugs
Luke 8:5-15 explains that.

But where do the seeds come from? Seed of God’s word comes from God’s word – but that is God – what about life?
Sure we have seeds and pits for food and even life, but what about areas in life, relationships,  jobs, careers, career paths and even fun?

Genesis 1:11-12 KJV  “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
[12] And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”

Notice the earth brings forth seed after “his” kind. Notice God assigns the masculine word “his” – so the seed the male carries. And the seed “is in itself” . I am not discussing this from a biological sense but from the laws of nature and God’s word. Why? Because God established the laws of nature. This is a study “in itself“.

But knowing seeds are within us – God created each of us with a body, soul and spirit. The seed God put in us was spirit,  the breath of life. Genesis 2:7 KJV
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Remember God is a God of the living not a God of the dead. Adam and Eve’s sin made all of us dead to God. The Old Testament shows how Israel was going through all kinds of ceremonies and trying to keep laws and commandments they could never keep and all to earn favor with God. When Jesus came he paid once for all (Hebrews 9:25-28) for mankind’s sin debt.  And Hebrews 10:10-14 KJV  “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all .
[11] And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
[12] But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
[13] From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
[14] For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”

Paul explains the gospel of salvation in 1 Corinthians 15 and notice in Ephesians 2:1, those who have believed and received are “quickened” or made alive unto God. Once we are made alive unto God, we receive all the promises of God as “dear children” of God. So the seed planted in us, from God, comes alive.

If you take 20 tomatoe seeds and 20 corn seeds and line them up on a table, nothings happens. If you take 20 people and line them up nothing happens. But take one of those tomatoe or corn seeds and plant it in “good soil” water them and give them light, control the bugs, the seeds come to life.

Take one of the twenty people lined up and plant the seeds of God’s word, a skill, a dream in them, control the bugs, water them through teaching, patience, guidance and give them light – direction – they will come to life.

But how many times have weeds or bugs overtaken your garden? Weeds and bugs can kill dreams, choke out God’s words, can cause the plant to grow in every which direction. Did you ever notice when seeds grow they root? If you could put a camera under ground in your garden and record the growth you would see roots forming. You would watch a peach pit become a tree producing even more peaches with pits.

As a believer, God has planted the promises of his word in you – inside you – in the form of seeds. When those seeds in you come to life in you it will change your life and walk with God. Why did God pick David over his brothers? Why Joseph or Moses? Why Peter, John and Paul? Everyone God picked had a love for his word, his ways, for God himself. Abraham believed God.

It is one thing to believe God’s word and quite another to believe and plant God’s word in you and then control the bugs, water and give light (direction).  When the seeds of God’s word come alive in you, then you will understand,

Philippians 4:13 KJV
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:19 KJV
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Until next time.

Is Your Life A Footnote

Have you ever thought about the people who lived 100 years ago? Or 300 years ago? Did you ever think about what did people from 500 or 1000 years ago accomplish in their life time? I do.

When you consider God gives us a specific amount of time here on this planet and God put us here at a specific time in a timeline, then ask, am I a footnote?

You see, God has a judgment day set. Peter says this judgment day is for judging the ” quick and the dead “. As Hebrews 4:12 explains, quick means alive in scripture or living. The live are the saved, those alive unto God. The dead? Those dead unto God. Those who never believed God or his word. Those who rejected God’s plan for salvation through Jesus Christ.

We know we have a spirit, soul, and body because scripture says we do.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV  “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Paul says we are servants to who we yield to, who we obey in Romans 6:16. If you look at your own life and ask yourself, who am I yielding to? Am I obeying my heart’s desires? My decisions?  My wants?

Could you imagine working your whole life on something just to find it was discontinued after 45 years? Here you spend hours working on this, sacrifice time with your family, miss your son’s ball game or daughter’s music performance for your job and later, the product is discontinued?

There are a lot of discontinued items throughout the years. Hudson Motor Car Company. Do you remember the Hudson automobile? Hudson built cars from 1909 through 1954. For 45 years people dedicated their life to working and promoting the Hudson. Now? Hudson is a footnote in history’s timeline.

As Paul says in Romans 6:16, If you yield or serve your flesh and the lusts of your flesh, you are a servant to your flesh. If you yield and serve this world or the things of this world, you are a servant of this world. If you yield to or serve evil, wickedness, satanism, you are a servant to Satan. And if you yield to God and serve God, serve Jesus Christ, you are a servant of God.

If you choose the world or your flesh, you will pay a price and in the long run, you loose. Why? Because scripture makes it clear there is a resurrection day and judgment where God will judge everyone.  Believers, those who have believed on not in, but on Jesus Christ unto salvation appear at the Judgment Seat of Christ as 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 states.

Believing on Jesus Christ means you put all your faith and trust in Jesus Christ shedding his blood to pay for your sin and you repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Saviour, you get saved.    Believing in means you acknowledge Jesus exists. Resurrection of the saved and unsaved is spoken of by God in Revelation chapter 20, all 15 verses.

So you get to choose who you will serve and what impact your life will leave for history. You can impact the world or heaven. Or you can be a footnote in history. Friends, only what we believers  do for Jesus will matter in eternity just like Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 3:9-15 KJV  “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
[10] According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
[11] For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
[12] Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
[13] Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
[14] If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
[15] If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

Make your life count now and forever. Share the gospel of salvation ( 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 )  with someone every day or every week. Take someone by the hand and take them to heaven with you. Until next time.

I saw this pix and thought I would share.

Resurrection Of The Dead

In Matthew 22: 29 – 32 the context, people were asking Jesus about marriage and what happens to people that had more than one wife while living on earth. My focus is not on the marriage question but on what Jesus said to answer their question.

Jesus tells them they don’t know the scriptures and they do not know the power of God. And because they do not know these two things they are making a mistake. Matthew 22:29 KJV  “Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”

In Mark 12:27 Mark records Jesus said you greatly err. Meaning, you are making a big mistake. Mark 12:27 KJV
“He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.”

And Luke explains this even more in Luke 20:36-38 KJV  “Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
[37] Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
[38] For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.”

Then John’s gospel expands this resurrection information even more. John tells us “all that are in the grave shall hear his voice” John 5:28 KJV
“Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,”

But John explains the resurrection of those in the graves. John says there are two different destinations of those who come up from the grave. Destination one ~ unto life. Destination two ~ unto damnation. Jesus explains this in John 5:19-47.

Clearly, after we die in this mortal body, there is a life beyond the grave.

Jesus said at the resurrection, those of the resurrection are “as” the angels – not like the angels. As is defined – refers to characteristics – similar. Like is defined equal in quantity,  quality, or degree resembling. In the same manner.

Example: As a father is, so is his son. Not that your son is equal to you but your son has similar characteristics as you have.

But a honeydew melon is like a cantelope melon or a Chevy is like a Ford. Both the melons and the vehicles have equal quality or resemble each other. Both are fruits or vehicles. What sets them apart?  Their individual   characteristics.

But when it comes to Jesus and the Holy Ghost in reference to God the Father?  1 John 5:7 KJV  :For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
We know from John 1 that Jesus is called the Word. God says these three are one, not similar but infatically are one.

So when Jesus said the resurrected will be “as” the angels, he was saying they will have similar characteristics. This is not a study on angels but I do want to point out two things about angels.

Matthew 18:10 KJV  “Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”

The context was children. But notice in heaven their angels.  Whose angels? The context, children. This clearly shows God assigned angels to us.

Point 2 – Psalm 103:20 KJV ” Bless the Lord , ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”

Angels ~
Excel in strength
Do God’s commandments
Harken unto God’s word

So in the resurrection, the resurrected will have similar characteristics as the angels. We will pick it up from here next time.
