Principles for life are laid out in God’s word. Not only are methods laid out in the law – don’t steal, don’t kill, but we also see using running water prevents disease and infection as Leviticus chapters 14 and 15 explain. Even washing our body, should be a shower and running water according to Leviticus 15:13. I truly believe God has provided us answers to our questions in his word. We may not understand the answer sometimes but we are promised by God, if we diligently search his word, he will provide the answer. Proverbs is laced with promises of wisdom, understanding and knowledge.
Sometimes, teachers of the word of God twist God’s word or manipulate scripture (take verses out of context) to make a point. Do they manipulate God’s word on purpose? That is not for me, or you, to determine, God knows. But we can search the scriptures for truth. If you REALLY want an answer, you can know the answer to your question. You should always ask God first, then search his word for the answer and then seek out godly council from people you know who are faithful to God and studying scripture.
Does that mean you will not make mistakes? No. But if you believe Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Then we have to trust God, no matter how much we do or don’t understand something. That is what faith is all about.
Over the years, regarding “religion” and prosperity, we have heard –
~ All God wants is your money
~ All church wants is your money
~ If you want to be rich, start a church and preach on tithing
Have there been preachers who have preached prosperity? Yes. Some with a genuine heart and others with their own personal gain in mind. It is up to the giver to decide and sift out the “shisters” and to use God’s word as your guide.
Ever since I was a child I remember hearing people say, you never discuss money, politics and religion. When you consider this theory you have to ask, what else is there to life?
Politics – politics is about where you live, your country and politics impacts your money, your country, your religion and your family.
Religion – if there is no freedom (political) of worship, how can you participate in your religion? Your worship and freedom of worship is the conduit for your life because what you believe, your faith, is how you live and your family lives. Religion – freedom to worship God and Jesus Christ is the bedrock of life and you and you family’s foundation for living in this world.
Money – Today, people tie money to education but what did people do before colleges were established? Often, if you look at very “successful” people today, many are college dropouts. They are people who had an idea and the passion to see their idea come to fruition.
When it comes to scripture, people assume believers must be poor. I find no scripture that supports that teaching. Just look at yourself or your family. Do your parents what you poor, needy, lacking things in life? Begging for food? Clothes? A roof over your head? Do you want your children poor and needy? Of course not. So why would you think your Heavenly Father would want you poor and needy?
Then you have the religious people. When you follow God’s ways for life and God starts prospering you because you are doing things his way, religious people speak against you. One of the first attacks come against God’s people regarding wealth, from God’s people. . Usually those attacking a believer’s wealth is based in jealousy. The attacker, 9 times out of 10, is in “hock over their head”. They have mortgage payments, car payments, credit card debt and live paycheck to paycheck. I know, I use to be there too.
I have never aspired to obtaining great wealth on earth. I know we need money to live in this world but I have tried to lay my treasures up in heaven. We could look at the Bible characters and how God prospered them but I am not sure that would explain things to you and me. My purpose here is to help you lay out your own plan according to God’s word. I will do this with you.
No, I am not a financial planner, but God is and he has laid out a plan in his word. My purpose is to help you understand God’s plan and then you decide what you want to do with God’s plan. If you decide to follow God’s plan, at the end of one year our wealth will increase. How do I know this? God’s word is truth.
So the next several posts will be on laying out a financial plan according to God’s word. If you decide to follow God’s plan I would encourage you to commit one year to doing things God’s way and at the end of the year compare the results. After all, if you are 16 or older, you have been handling your finances and money at least some of the time.
So I encourage you to take an inventory. Inventory your current wealth and expenses. You will want paper and pencil at hand so you can track your wealth. I want you to consider the next question and what you think the answer should be.
Who is more wealthy – a person making $ 75,000. Per year ( $ 6250. per month before taxes) with a mortgage payment of $ 2200 per month for the next 20 years, two car payments $ 300 each for the next three years, $ 10,000 in credit card debt at 20% interest monthly, plus insurance on everything, maintenance costs, electric bills, schooling costs, phone and Internet costs, heating costs, gas and groceries, medical and dental expenses OR
Someone who makes $ 2000 per month who has no mortgage payments, no car payments, no credit card debt, no education expenses?
Until next time.
