Warnings Before Blessings
As I was putting this material together I asked the Lord, how do I explain this. As I was going through scripture, the Lord gave me the perfect example from Deuteronomy.
Before I explain, let me ask you a few questions. Was Deuteronomy before or after Abraham? Right, after. Are the people God is speaking to part of Abraham’s seed, yes or no? Correct, yes. God set different laws, statutes and ordinances up for Israel. Were these laws, statutes and ordinances only for salvation or for salvation and how to live? Correct, salvation and how to live and an example is the use of running water to cleanse wounds not water buckets.
Romans 4 explains the connection with us and Abraham, as believers. God calls Abraham and makes him promises in Genesis 12. And Paul tells us in Galatians 3:9 KJV “So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.”
Galatians 3 fully explains the connection we have with Abraham as believers in Christ. But notice, the law was given to Moses 430 years after Abraham. So the law, laid out in Exodus through Deuteronomy – why did God give the law to Moses? Galatians 3:19 it was given because of transgressions until Jesus Christ came. This is very clear. But God’s promises to Abraham were never canceled or made void according to Galatians 3:17.
Paul explains we are no longer under the law Galatians 3:24 and when Paul was explaining Jesus fulfilled the law in Hebrews 9, Paul mentions all the ordinances the priests would go through. So what about the other laws and ordinances not dealing with salvation? Are they void? Let me ask you a question. If you know, from those other laws or rules that running water is the best way to cleanse a wound would you use a bucket of standing water or running water to cleanse your wound and why?
Paul was explaining to his Hebrew friends, Hebrews 10:10-17 KJV
“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all .
 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”
Clearly, it is no longer the “letter of the law” but the Holy Ghost ( verse 15 ) is a witness to us. And God has put his laws into our heart and the Holy Ghost guides us.
So now, we glean ways to do things from what God taught Israel. We learn about running water, crop rotation, medicine and blood coagulation, foot diseases, grafting trees, murder and theft is wrong, and even how to prosper and obtain wealth and yes, God uses the word wealth.
Because this series is on how to be a good steward of what God gives us and prosper, we are focusing on improving our wealth. God gave a warning before God increased his people. Before God increased their wealth. I want to share that warning with you and my prayer is you will heed what the Lord says.
Deuteronomy 8:11-20 KJV
“Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein ;
 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
 Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
 Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
 But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
 And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
 As the nations which the Lord destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the Lord your God.”
Remember it is God providing your wealth, not you. Give him all the praise, honour and glory or he will take it away.
Next time we will look at four ways God uses to increase wealth. Until next time.
