Wealthy Believers Part 4 – Yields

Luke 19:12-27 has been our focus. The question, how did one pound become ten? Ten servants were all given the same amount, one pound. This one pound was seed money. They were given this seed money with one command, Occupy till I come.

Does occupy mean take up space? Occupy means – possess, employ, use to expand, negotiate, follow business. So the command, Occupy till I come, with this seed money, the one pound, was telling these ten servants to expand this pound through business, negotiating or putting it to work – employing the pound. In verse 15 we are told when the nobleman came back he wanted to know how much every man had gained through trading.

Trading – the exchanging of goods or services for money or increase.

Each trade has a yield. Yield means that which is produced, the profit, to produce. Farmers try to increase the yield of their crops. Even in Exodus 38:24 gold was occupied for the work in all the work of the Holy place, even the gold of the offering and we are told how much. So gold was put to work to create a yield for the yield to be used for the Holy place. The temple of God.

We all start in life the same, just as the 10 servants in Luke 19. When we grow up we start making decisions with seed money we are given. The seed money can come from a job, parents, relatives, negotiating or business ventures. We all have to choose how to use our yield. Some choose to go into debt, others invest. (Ezekiel 18:5-34 and Proverbs 22:7).

If you choose to spend up all your yield on yourself and your desires you choose to sow to your flesh. But if you choose to take a portion of your yield and invest, you want to consider the return on your investment. You can invest in the world’s systems or you can invest in God’s economy. Your decisions affect your future and your investments. So consider the yields for your investments.

The areas for investment in God’s economy are:

Tithe – You honour God by giving to God first, a tenth or 10% of all your increase. You deposit that 10% at your local church. Not any church but a God honoring church of believers. God promises you a yield. ( Malachi 3:10-11 KJV “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it .
[11] And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.”

The Yield – God will open to you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And, God will rebuke the devourer for you so he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine cast her fruit before her time.  What does this mean? God promises to open the windows (more than one window) of heaven and pour out a blessing to you. Rebuking the devourer is your “things” will not break down as fast. The things you have (fruit of your ground) will not fall apart or break quickly.

So if you tithe 10% God promises to bless you and stop the devourer from ruining your “stuff”. (That’s a study in itself).

Firstfruits – When you get an increase, whether crops or a raise or anything, you give God all of the first crop, all of the raise amount, all of your first increase. You give it to God and deliver your firstfruits to your local pastor or minister. Because pastors and priests were cared for by the people they did not hold a job in the world. Their job was God’s word. See Nehemiah 10:35-39.

The Yield of Firstfruits – Proverbs 3:9-10 KJV “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
[10] So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
Your barns will be filled with plenty and your presses bursting with new wine. Another words, God promises you will have plenty, plenty of food, plenty of drink, plenty.

Firstfruits are given once a year usually. The season of firstfruits is Pentacost. I try to give my pastor an envelope in the springtime. I tell God it is my firstfruits offering / investment. I tell my pastor, this is a little something to help you and I hand him the envelope, no note just the envelope and walk away. We never discuss the envelope. It is between me and God only.

Alms – You give alms to people or organizations of relief like Samaritan’s Purse , the Salvation Army , individuals in your church that suffered a hardship or need help burying a family member. Your local food pantry, ministries feeding the poor. Hurricane relief. Alms are given to help the poor and needy. Americans are big alms givers.

The Yield – Alms giving yields dollar for dollar plus a reward. Proverbs 19:17 KJV “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord ; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”

Alms giving is giving from what you have not going into debt to give. Luke 11:41 KJV “But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.”
Giving to the poor also guarantees you a future reward as Jesus explained in Luke. Luke 14:13-14 KJV “But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
[14] And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.”

Offerings / Seed Giving – Seed or offering giving is given to God to show your thankfulness to His blessings on you and your life. We have several examples of people in scripture who gave or made offerings unto God. 2 Corinthians 8 Paul discusses the liberal giving of believers.

Seed giving must be planted in good ground so inspect the soil first. Seed giving plants for your future. Just as seeds take time to germinate and bring forth a crop so does seed giving.

The Yield – Seed giving is the only giving that brings 30, 60, 100 fold Mark 4:8 and Paul says 2 Corinthians 9:10-12 KJV
” Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
[11] Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
[12] For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;” Another words, by your seed giving, others are going to praise and thank God. Why? Because they were trying to raise funds or they had a need and by your giving they achieved their goal and praise God and you planted seed giving.

Let’s say you seed give to a ministry and thousands of souls are saved through that ministry. Part of each soul saved is credited to your account with God. We are going to cover this more in our upcoming post Ruler Over Much.
The Bank – the world’s system.
Yields – interest

We will wrap this up next time and provide a chart to help you determine how to set your financial plan with God.

What good is your investing going to do if you do not know God or if you have not received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour?  Luke 17:28-30 KJV
“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
[29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
[30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.”
