The Switch

Is it me or have you noticed the switch? So many “preachers” are preaching how God wants to bless you, prosper you, heal you, provide for you. The preaching has shifted from Jesus Christ to God and what God wants to do for you. The preaching of the cross, sin, death and life, heaven and hell seem to be falling by the wayside.

Don’t get me wrong, the Lord does bless us but when did you read in scripture how God provided a new house? New car? New job? Wealth and riches? Do you have some New Testament chapters and verses?

Let’s face it, if someone did not have a house, did not have clothes or food sometimes, why would anyone want to follow them? It appears they were a failure in life, right? Paul said just that in  1 Corinthians 4:11-16 KJV  “Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
[12] And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
[13] Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.
[14] I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you .
[15] For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
[16] Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.”

Does that mean the Lord wants us poor, naked, hungry? No. But clearly some in the church were “puffed up”. Paul goes on to explain it is not about what these people say but it is about the power working through them.

1 Corinthians 4:19-20 KJV ” But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
[20] For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.”

Friends, it is not about us. It is not about God blessing us. It is not  about God prospering us even though he does prosper us. It is all about Jesus and what Jesus did on the cross and why Jesus went to the cross. It is about letting God change you through the power of the Holy Spirit so you will share the gospel of salvation, Jesus Christ.

And even though we may have struggles and battles both in the flesh and spirit realm, Ephesians 6:12 KJV
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places .” We are more than conquers, through Christ not things of this world.

What do you think would have more impact on a homeless person or someone in need, a prosperity gospel or preaching Jesus? The prosperity gospel is based in what you give. What does a homeless person have to give according to the prosperity gospel? Someone has lost their job, lost their home and now they have nothing – what is the prosperity gospel, based in giving financially, going to do for that person?

We need to look around at those hurting and in need and not tell them how to get rich but help them up on their feet again. And when they ask you why you are helping them you can share Jesus and what he did for you. And for your helping people God rewards you, not man. Just be sure your motive in your heart is to help out of love and to glorify Jesus, not you.

Which brings me to a person I know who is living in Colorado. After a series of events, this person was forced to take a room in a motel located in a rough area of town. Because of a small stroke, they crashed their car (which will cost $700 to repair) and lost time from their job. This person is a relatively new convert and looking to make real change in their life. They contacted me for help.

I have agreed if they could get to Florida, from Colorado, I would open my doors to provide a place for them to stay and help them get back on their feet. As I have mentioned several times to my readers, I am a technical minded person which means I don’t always know how to handle every day matters. I lean on the Lord all the time.

So I am asking you, my readers, if you can help this person get from Colorado to Florida with their small amount of life’s possessions? I don’t know how to help them get here to Florida so if anyone has some suggestions, I am open for ideas to pray about. If you want to help by making a financial donation, you can click on our Menu Support Heavens Record above and make a donation. For those who do help, I will introduce you to this person so you can track their progress.

Until next time.

  1. Charles Miller says :

The Lord said to Ananias about Saul (later Paul), that “I will shew him how great things he must suffer for My Name’s sake.” That is much the opposite of the prosperity gospel. That is also the norm for the time that we live in. While some “gospel” preachers have the prosperity and “name it, claim it” nonsense, shaking the faith of everyone that they preach to, true believers bear the sufferings and reproaches of Christ.
    Thanks for this article.

      Charles,
Thanks for your comment. I agree, prosperity preachers leave out the sufferings. The sufferings for the cause of Christ not things in this world. God will hold each of us accountable. Have a blessed day.
