Can Things Think
Picking up on the John 1:4 theme from last week, have you ever considered if “things” can think?
We are told in a scripture, creation groans. Romans 8:22-23 KJV “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
And not only they , but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit , the redemption of our body.”
We have focused on John 1:1-5 recently and notice verse 5.
John 1:1-5 KJV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
Do you see “the darkness comprehended it not”? How does darkness comprehend things? Can darkness think?
Notice verse 4 where speaking of Jesus, the scriptures say ” In him was life and the life was the light of men”. Was is past tense. Scripture here, says was, not is. Is John writing this gospel after the death, burial and resurrection?
How can darkness comprehend things? In Genesis 1 we know the earth was without form and void and then darkness was upon the face of the deep. So what is darkness?
Well if I post my study right now, you may not explore the answers in God’s word. When you study God’s word, always pray first and ask God to help you understand his word. Pray the Holy Spirit give you understanding of God’s word. That us part of the Holy Spirit’s job according to Jesus in John chapters 14, 15 and 16.
There is a key to understanding “the darkness comprehended it not”. Look up the definitions of comprehend and darkness. Until next time.
