Most denominations teach or preach on actions of the flesh. They try to correct ” bad behaviour”, improve moral character, preach good deeds. All of this is good, but all of it deals with our flesh in this world. Is it working? Just look at society over the past 10, 20, 30, 40 years, has society improved? Remember the Golden Rule? Do unto others as you want them to do unto you. Has it helped change society?
Scripture clearly tells us, John 4:24 KJV
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
We know God was manifest in the flesh, 1 Timothy 3:16 KJV “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
We know Jesus Christ said he is God in the flesh. John 8:58 KJV “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”
There are many more scripture references declaring Jesus is God manifest in the flesh, but that is not my point here.
Jesus went back to heaven so there is an unseen world. There is like a whole other world we can not see.
2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
The things of this other world are eternal but the world we are in, the world we can see, is temporal. This other world we can not see, right? Wrong. True we can not see this world with our earthly eyes but we can see things from the spirit world because scripture tells us we can.
God showed Daniel things from the spirit world in dreams, in visions. Even the apostle John saw things in the spirit world as the book of Revelation tells us. Ezekiel the prophet saw things in the spirit world and he describes what he saw vividly.
Did you ever ask yourself or ask God, if this physical world is temporary and the things in this world temporal, why create them? I have asked God that question. If mankind, in this flesh, is temporal and this world is temporal, why make mankind in this world? Is it all an experiment?
And what if God gives us glimpses of the spirit world through his word and through dreams, what is the purpose?
Have you considered the following:
~ What if God made man with a free will to see who really would love Him?
~ What if God wanted to sift out people who hated Him?
~ What if the purpose of life here, in the flesh, was to sift those who wanted to be with God?
If God created man for fellowship, as many pastors teach, can you have fellowship with people who hate you?
And if God gives us glimpses of the eternal spirit world through dreams and visions, why do we do things in our dreams that we would not do when we are “awake”?
When I was a youngster, I would sleep walk. I can attest to people who say they did not know what they were doing because they were sleep walking. Doctors and family use to say things to my mother, but they did not understand sleep walking.
My mom use to say she would find me and calmly try to tell me to go back to bed. They say you never wake someone when they are sleep walking because they can go into shock. I would jump in bed with my younger brother and say, give me your belt. I didn’t know I did that. Naturally, I woke my brother up when I did things like that and mom would tell him it is okay, I was sleep walking.
I remember mom taking me to a doctor one time and he told her to put a cocoa mat at my bed. When I would get out of bed and step on the cocoa mat, the pickers would prick my feet and I would get back into bed. You know what? I just walked right over the mat. It didn’t work.
My mom use to tell me, you will not do anything when you are a sleep that you would not do when you were awake. Mom didn’t really know but that is what she was told.
One time I was about 22 years old and I went to North Carolina to tour a piano factory. I was in the music business. I stayed in a motel that had two double beds. I slept in the bed closest to the window and sliding glass door. In the middle of the night I felt myself hit the wall and slide down to the floor. It woke me up.
When I looked at the wall, my knee had hit the wall and I put a large hole in the wall with my knee. My neck was sore. I realized I had stood up on my bed and ran as fast as I could over my bed, jumped onto the other bed and took off running right into the wall. Then I slid down the wall on to the floor. I called my mom in the morning and said to her, I thought you said I would not do things in my sleep that I would not do when I was awake? She had no explanation.
So why was I sleep walking? No one could explain it to my mom or to me. But I can say this, I use to have a nightmare that this evil looking being was chasing me. I didn’t watch scary movies as a kid. I hated scary things. I would plug my ears and hum when scary scenes came on tv. I still do that today or just change the channel. There was a time I was afraid to go to sleep because I feared that evil looking thing would chase me. I can say this. When I got saved at 27 years old, the nightmares stopped and I stopped sleep walking.
I truly believe from scripture, when we sleep, our spirit man is living in the spirit realm. Many times scripture tells us of a deep sleep coming on people. I have always been a deep sleeper. My mom would tell me the house could fall down and it would not wake me up. She use to wake me up by rubbing my arm firmly. So I understand deep sleep from scripture.
It is in deep sleep that God took from Adam to create Eve, Genesis 2:21. So if we access the spirit realm when we sleep, it is something I plan on examining from acripture. Until next time.
If you were to look at a house you would see you have a roof, walls, a floor. Does the roof, the walls, the floor determine what is inside the house? No. Does the roof, walls or floor determine how the house operates? No. So what determines what is going on inside the house? The modern conveniences? The design? The people? And why do some houses have peace, happiness, love and others rebellion, wickedness and hate?
Have you heard the expression the American Spirit? The Spirit of 1776? The Spirit of America? It is not that America is perfect or everything runs smoothly in America all the time. And it is not that households run smoothly all the time. And it is not that life runs smoothly all the time. But there is a spirit of good and a spirit of evil, in a nation, in a home and in people.
Can you see that spirit with your eyes? No. But you can see the fruit of that spirit. What the spirit produces, good or evil. Can you see the spirit of a home? Of a nation? No, but you can see, by the actions of a nation, a home and the actions of people, fruit they produce, whether good fruit or evil fruit. You can see the fruit of government run education, the fruit of freedom, the fruit of your parenting skills and the fruit of your relationship with God.
So when Jesus said in John 6:63 KJV
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” Jesus was saying the house, the flesh, the nation profits nothing. These are just things. But the words I speak unto you, they are Spirit and they are life. Notice it is the words, not the building, not the land, not your body, your flesh, your house, but your words. And God’s words give life. It is what is inside, words, spirit, life that brings forth fruit for all to see.
America’s founding fathers set America up as one nation, under God. Their words set the country on a path of good. A path under God. So it stands to reason then that the fruit America would produce would be good fruit.
If the people in your house want nothing to do with God, how can the spirit of your house produce good fruit? Remember Jesus speaking about the root and the branches? It is not about the roof and the walls or the design and modern conveniences in the house. It is not about the land or the mountains or the air or the environment. What brings your country to life is what is inside your country, your people. What is inside your house, the people. What is inside you, your spirit. Take your spirit away and you have a dead body, a shell, a house. Take people out of a house and you have an empty building. Take people out of a country and you have empty land.
And because there is a spirit of good and a spirit of evil, everyone has a free will to choose what spirit they want in their country, in their house and in their body. If they choose evil, they reject God and choose Satan. If they choose God, their direction, guidance and instructions come from God’s word.
Friends, life is not about finding your perfect love, or getting rich, or having good health, or what kind of a job you have. It is about what is inside you. What fruit do you produce? Who did you pick, Satan or God? Good or evil?
When God’s word speaks of spiritual matters, the fruit of the Spirit, using gifts of the Spirit – all is directed to what’s inside – what is not seen, so the fruit you produce will glorify God. What kind of fruit are you producing?
Until next time.
If I were to ask you, what was last Sunday’s message about, at church, most people would not remember. If I were to ask you, what did you have for dinner last night, the night before last and the night before that, most people would not remember. The church message example deals with our spiritual man. The second example about dinner, deals with the physical man. But neither question could most people answer. Why?
But let’s say the message from church impacted you so much that you got saved that day. You repented of your sin and asked Jesus Christ into your heart to forgive you and save you. Chances are you would not forget that day. The same would be true about dinner. If the meal was outstanding or it was a special event or special restaurant, chances are you would remember. Why? Because the message or the meal made an impact on you.
So how does a believer make an impact on unbelievers? How can a believer help God’s word impact our life in 2017? How can we, mankind, understand principles in God’s word that impact us spiritually in this physical world? Look under the covers. God showed me yesterday, a possibility. Now stick with me for a minute and look at the bigger picture.
I was listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio. He was explaining liberalism. A caller, who is “gay” called in and said he voted for Donald Trump but liberal “gay” people didn’t want anything to do with him. The caller identified himself as a conservative “gay” man. Rush explained to the guy, it is because you are not liberal. So Rush explained the liberal mindset to his audience.
Liberals want to kill personal ambition and turn everyone into a victim. If people can’t make good money with a job, they are a victim of greedy big business. If people don’t have (________) (fill in the blank) it is because they are a victim of something. Liberals label people as victims of unwanted pregnancy so they promote abortion. Victim of greedy employers so liberals push for minimum wage hikes. Victims of a bigoted society through race, gender, sexual orientation. Liberals try to turn people into victims.
Rush explained to the caller, because he was a conservative, liberals know they can not convince him. Liberals know because you identify yourself as a conservative gay man, they can not convince you that you are a victim, so they ignore you. It is not about the sexual preference issue with liberals, it is about convincing people they are victims of a bigoted society.
Rush then explained illegal immigration. If liberals can convince illegal immigrants they are victims of a poor country and they come to America to better themselves then liberals can try to convince Congress these people are victims and America should show compassion. And what happens? Illegals may have made $ 2 or $ 3 an hour in the country they came from. So when they illegally get into America and can make $ 6, 7, 8, 10 per hour, the illegals are happy. The employer is happy to save money on payroll and not have to pay benefits. What happens? The illegals actions cause employers to pay less for workers and therefore, drive wages across the board down. Then Americans, who have nothing to do with other countries wages for their citizens, end up loosing their job to foreign workers.
Because the US Congress is made up of liberals and conservatives, you have liberals wanting to make illegals victims of a foreign government and liberals want all Americans to pay for helping these alleged “victims”. And conservatives say America is a generous nation and we help all people around the world but have you not read, Thou Shalt Not Steal? Don’t steal our money, our jobs, our country.
Rush was explaining to the caller that real conservatism has the answers to societies problems. The answer is life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. People can come to America, legally, for liberty. We promote life, not murder through abortion. And Americans have the right to pursue happiness without a group of elected people stealing our money, our time and our founding principles.
Then it hit me. That is exactly what Satan does. When liberals try to make people feel like victims, what are they doing? They are trying to sway the mindset of people. They are trying to convince people of something that is not true. John 10:10 KJV “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Paul says, to the church, 2 Timothy 3:1-5 KJV “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
Notice, from such TURN AWAY!
Every one of these points deals with the soul, the mind, a mindset. But believers live by the Spirit, not the soul. Believers use their mind (soul) to sift everything through the word of God.
Liberals and liberalism is against God and God even tells us so in
Isaiah 32:5-8 KJV “The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.
For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord , to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.”
There is coming a time when there will be no more battles over liberals trying to deceive someone’s mind.
When preachers say, regarding America, it is a battle for the soul of the country, they are saying we are fighting against evil trying to change the mindset of America, of the world. And Satan is the root cause. Ephesians 6:12 KJV “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Until next time.
Some people would say, who determines what is natural and what is un-natural? Clearly it is God and here is why it is God. It is one thing to speak of machines or inventions but quite a different matter when you speak of life.
Machines and inventions are created by man. Even when looking at Artificial Intelligence, aka AI. When man invents a machine and programs into the machine “intelligence” the machine still does not have life. It is still a machine and machines break, misfire, have glitches and programming can get a “virus”. Inventors borrow from the real world of life and try to create artificial life. But no matter how hard one tries to create life through AI or cloning, they can not. God creates life.
And God has a lot to say about mankind’s inventions. Amos 6:5 tells us man invents musical instruments. And during King Uzziah’s reign, men built engines. Engines were mounted on the towers to shoot at the enemy. You can read about this in 2 Chronicles 26:14-16.
But when it comes to life, only God can create real life. And God set life with a design, a purpose. But man corrupted life. Not that man can create life but man took what God made, life, and the natural order of life, and corrupted it. And man’s corrupting of life has continued for 1000s of years.
Remember Noah? Why did God send the flood? Genesis 6:11 KJV “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” Sounds like today, 2017 doesn’t it? And in verse 12 we are told all flesh corrupts his way upon the earth.
And today’s church? Today’s church is accepting this corruption. When I saw a “Baptist” preacher coddling the LGBT crowd I was shocked and saddened. When I was growing up we called these un-natural people faggots, queers. They were shamed because of their un-natural behaviour. Today, these people, although 3% of the population, are promoted, encouraged and coddled.
Friends, it is un-natural behaviour. It is wickedness. It is against God. And if you do not reject their actions and try to set them on the path of truth, you bring evil upon yourself and your family.
Isaiah 3:9-11 KJV. “The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him : for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him : for the reward of his hands shall be given him.”
Did you see that? These people bring evil upon themselves.
I am sorry but this wickedness of the LGBT crowd must stop. Christians, please, please take a stand and speak out against this wickedness. Yes, we can speak to these people as Christians but we need to show them the error of their way from God’s word. These people have been deceived by Satan to think their ungodly behaviour is acceptable to God and it is not, as scripture declares.
Time and time again scripture speaks out against this behaviour. Not only in Noah’s time but you have Sodom and Gomorrah in Abraham’s time and even in King David’s time and also Paul spoke out against this in Romans 1. And we need to make the liberal media promoting this behaviour know we do not approve. Call the stations and tell them you will contact their advertisers and boycott their products. Turn their stations off.
I am sorry but this issue troubles me greatly. God hates this wickedness. He destroyed the earth with a flood and destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. Warnings galore are in scripture and if you allow this behaviour, you invite trouble into your own home. The LGBT movement may not believe God or his word but do you?
Psalm 106:24-29 KJV “Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord .
Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:
To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.
They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.”
Time and time again we read where Israel sinned and did wickedness and God sent destruction but when they repented and turned to God, God forgave them. We need to repent and speak righteousness not promote wickedness.
Yes, we are now in New Testament times but Paul also speaks, to the church, and God makes his judgment clear on the LGBT crowd, very clear.
Romans 1:18-32 KJV “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
God gives these people up. They either repent and turn or God gives them up. Do you want that in your family?
Until next time.
When Daniel was praying and confessing his and Israel’s sin God sent the arch angel Gabriel to explain things to Daniel. Daniel 9:20-21 KJV “And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God;
Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.”
As Gabriel explained to Daniel, Messiah would be cut off. Daniel 9:24-26 KJV
” Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”
When Jesus was at a well that Jacob had given to his son Joseph, Jesus spoke to a local woman. The account is in John 4. When you read through John 4 you see a pattern that is operating today the same way.
Jesus comes to the well and asks for water. God asks us to come to him. She questions Jesus in John 4:9. When God asks mankind to come to him, we question God. Jesus responds, if you knew who I am you would ask me for living water. Again God asks us to ask of him just like Jesus said to her, if you knew who I am you would ask of me.
But notice what happens next. She then asks Jesus to give her the living water. Did he? John 4:15-16 KJV “The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.”
Jesus identifies a problem area in her life. He did not condemn her, he identified a problem area she was having. She agrees to the premise of the problem area but does not elaborate. Often, we agree with God on problem areas we have in our life. But Jesus did not stop with just identifying the problem area. Jesus elaborated and told her how she handles the problem area. John 4:17-18 KJV “The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.”
She then proceeds to determine Jesus must be a prophet and she changes the subject and asks Jesus a religious question. Jesus did not answer her question on where to worship God but he did answer the worship point. Her response was stating she knew the Messiah was coming. And Jesus told her flat out he is the Messiah.
John 4:21-26 KJV “Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”
It appears she believed him because in verse 29 she told others what happened.
Unsaved people do not understand how God could send Jesus, God manifest in the flesh ( Colossians 2:13-22) to die on a cross but God explains his plan in Colossians. Just like the woman at the well in John 4, when we share the gospel of salvation with the lost, they question God on things in their life.
When God gives us answers, we ask religious questions because we do not want to deal with the issues in our life. God knows our issues and wants us to lay them all down at the cross. Matthew 11:28 KJV “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
And it is not just individual people laden with sin but nations too. Isaiah 1:2-4 KJV “Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord , they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.”
As Jesus exposed the sin in the woman’s life to her, we need to repent of our sin. God loves the sinner but hates sin. Jesus was pointing out a problem area in the Samaritan woman’s life not condemning her. Just like the sodomites today promoting their “gay”/ sodomite rights. They are destroying themselves and everyone who supports them is destroying their own. Isaiah 3:9 KJV “The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.”
In Daniel 9 what was Daniel doing when God sent Gabriel? Confessing. It is time to repent and clean out the idols in our life, our home and our nations. We know, as Daniel and other scriptures like 1 Thessalonians and I Corinthians and many others tell us, Jesus is coming back. First, Jesus is coming in the clouds to meet his bride, the church in the air, and then he is coming back and will set foot on the ground in Israel.
Until next time.
With prophecy you have to ask the who, what, when and where questions. Over hundreds or thousands of years the names of cities and nations changed. An example of this is Jerusalem.
In Genesis 14:18 Jerusalem is called Salem. Genesis 14:18 KJV “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.”
And Psalm 76:2 tells us Psalm 76:2 KJV
” In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.”
So we know (who) Abraham (what) brought tithes to Melchizedek God’s high priest (where) in Jerusalem. So who was on the land at that time? Who owned and occupied Jerusalem? God and Abraham and God’s people. (When) After the flood.
Later, the Jebusites occupied the land, when Joseph and Israel were in Egypt, Jebusites moved onto Israel’s land given to Abraham from God. Jebusites are also known as Canaanites and after Moses led Israel out of Egypt, when Joshua spied out the land, these were the people in the land and God’s word says they were into idolatry. Not only were Jebusites there, but all the ites brothers; Hivites, Jebusites, Canaanites, Perizzites and Hitities. So when Israel went into the promised land, the land God gave Abraham, God laid out the divisions of the land to the tribes of Israel, see Numbers 1. And who did King David kick out of Jerusalem? Jebusites, see 2 Samuel 5.
Israel was taken into captivity and lost their land. Remember when God told Abraham, Israel was going to be in captivity 400 years (Genesis 15:13,14)? Abraham’s offspring would go into captivity 400 years. Today, we know this is when Joseph was in Egypt and Israel came into Egypt during a famine and Israel dwelt in Goshen.
66 people were in Jacob’s family coming into Egypt and Joseph and his family were already there so 70 people total made up Israel, see Genesis 46:27,28. The 66 dwelt in Goshen and they grew in number and prosperity, see Exodus 1:7. Egypt begins to fear the growth and prosperity of Israel so they set taskmasters over them. Israel is then taken into bondage.
According to Exodus 12:40, 41, Israel is in bondage 430 years. But God told Abraham 400 years, did God get it wrong? No. Don’t forget, when Israel first came into Egypt you had generations around before the bondage.
We know God raised up Moses to deliver Israel from the bondage in Egypt. Remember, Israel had been in Goshen 430 years so when God used Moses to deliver Israel, they had no idea which way to travel out of Egypt. It would be like someone dropping you in the middle of a desert and you not knowing what direction to go.
We know God led Israel by day in a pillar of a cloud and by night with a pillar of fire, Exodus 13:20-22. Neighboring nations were afraid of Israel because they knew God was leading them as Exodus 15:14-27 explains. And notice the names of these other nations? Nations like Edom, Moab, Canaan? Other nations had taken over the land God gave Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in Genesis 15:18-21.
A study of the promised land is a great study. It is also a study of God’s relationship with Abraham and Israel. It is a great study in geography and history of the people and the land. It is also a study of who owns what land in the Middle East.
All this I have said to point out, those who lived in the days of Moses, who knew the Scriptures, knew God told Abraham Israel would be in captivity 400 years as Genesis 15:13-15 states. That’s why Israel knew God was going to send a deliverer. The scribes were keeping records and when Israel reached their 400 years in captivity, they knew time in captivity was up. Look for the deliverer.
Today, we have the scriptures completely and we can trace out prophecies of old and now prophecies and future prophecies. In understanding the names in the scriptures (the who) we can determine by looking at old maps. Old maps show the names of cities and geography. And even though countries change their name, old maps identify the players in the scriptures.
An example of this is Iran. Iran was always identified as Persia. Remember the Medes and Persians from the scriptures? Persia is identified with Elam in scripture. And remember Esther was living in the time of the Medes and Persians, see Esther 1:1-3.
In recent past times, the Ottoman Empire was carved up. And it is said it was a Nazi economics minister that said Persians / Iranians were “Aryans”. So in 1935 the Iranian government wanted countries to no longer call them Persians, but call them Iran. And when the Ottoman Empire was carved up is when Iraq and other countries came into their own.
Why bring this up? Because when you read scripture and see names like Persia and Syria or Damascus or Elam, by looking at an old map you can discover what nations God is speaking about. Prophecy names the countries by their old names. There are many old time maps and look at several to help you understand prophecy.
We read in Isaiah 17 that Damascus is going to be destroyed and where is Damascus? Modern day Syria. We also read there will be an alarm of war in Jordan.
Zephaniah 2:8-13 KJV “I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.
Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the Lord of hosts.
The Lord will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.
Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.
And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.”
As people today try to figure things out in the Middle East and as some try to bully Israel in to giving up the land God gave them, all one has to do is look to God’s word for the truth, for answers and the solution to the Middle East.
Until next time.
What would you think or do if someone showed you a book that was written 400 years before you were born and spoke of a great victory you were going to have? And named you by name? As we explained in our post Destiny Decisions destiny is like one’s destination and destiny does not appear in scripture, but purpose does. And purpose means there was a plan, a purpose.
Prophecy is like someone showing you information that was written hundreds of years ( sometimes thousands of years ) before it happens. Why? God wrote prophecy to prove God’s word is truth. People confused prophets of God with false prophets and even with “fortune tellers”. God wanted mankind to know his word was truth and only he is 100% accurate.
But prophecy is not always easy to understand. And then we see there are also fakes out there. Yes, there are “false prophets” in the world. If prophecy is speaking something that is in the future, and maybe hundreds of years in the future, how can we know if the prophecy is true? And if prophecy is part of telling something in the future, aren’t prophets prognosticators?
A prognosticator, by definition, is someone who tells a future event by present signs. Weather men are prognosticators. Weather men foretell the weather in their weekly weather forecasts and they base their forecast on “present” weather signs, winds, fronts and weather patterns.
But prophecy is based on God and events laid out in the scriptures. Like a weatherman predicts the weather for the day, for the week, the people of God predict events God lays out in scripture. And because God lays out explanations and events relating to mankind, God also lays out events that affect nations of the world.
And today, in the 21st century, people still ask, how can we know this “prophecy” is true or accurate? There are many so called prophets in the world and many make claims or predictions. There are two things for anyone to consider when it comes to prophets and Bible prophecy:
~ The test of a prophet as laid out in Jeremiah (Notice God is very specific with information)
~ God’s word – prophecies need to line up with the teachings of God’s word.
Regarding the test of a prophet, Jeremiah says
Jeremiah 28:1-17 KJV “And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the Lord , in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of the Lord’s house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon:
And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went into Babylon, saith the Lord : for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.
Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of the Lord ,
Even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen: the Lord do so: the Lord perform thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the Lord’s house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place.
 Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people;
The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.
The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him.
Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and brake it.
And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith the Lord ; Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
Then the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah the prophet , after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord ; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron.
For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.
Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The Lord hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.
Therefore thus saith the Lord ; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the Lord .
So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
People say when we get closer to a prophetic event the prophecy is made clearer to the people of that time. That would explain why some writers in scripture use phrases like fire in the sky and stinging locust. How could people from 2000 years ago understand modern fighter jets or trips to the moon?
But God opens our understanding to things that may have been hidden before when we get close to the time of the prophecy. I can think of two examples right away.
There are many great books written by Bible Believers. A great book on Dispensations was written by Clarence Larkin. But Clarence Larkin wrote his books around 1918. Automobiles were just invented and electricity was right around the corner.
Then there is a Bible Dictionary that is illustrated, written in 1859 and was used in schools to teach Americans. Both this Bible Dictionary and Clarence Larkin’s books are excellent tools. But there is a key prophecy that has been fulfilled that the Bible Dictionary and Clarence Larkin did not understand – Israel.
Bible students know Israel is God’s focus and time clock, so to say. Israel became a nation in their own land (again) in May 1948. And to me, I can see it like popcorn popping, pop – that prophecy is fulfilled. Pop, pop, those prophecies are fulfilled. And today, we can see how the prophecies regarding the land of Israel will be fulfilled. We see from scripture, God has something to say about the nations that surround Israel, about the land and not dividing the land. About other nations God also speaks. And we will look at prophecy more next time.
