Loaded Or Liberty
In our last post titled ” 2 ” we said, ”
This new contract would be how people could restore their spirit man. How people could have a relationship with God again, something Adam and Eve lost. This new contract was based not on the laws, rules and regulations the flesh had to perform but based on Jesus and his perfect blood payment on the cross to pay for all of mankind’s sin. And to prove it, Jesus rose from the dead, fulfilling the law. Matthew 5:17 KJV. “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
So if the first contract, the first covenant, the Old Testament, was based on the flesh performing specific rules, specific laws, following specific regulations – all flesh based, why read the Old Testament? Lots of reasons why we should read and study the Old Testament and just to name a few:
~ We learn about God, his character and personality
~ We learn about prophecy. God’s word is the only one who can tell the future 100% accurately.
~ 1 Corinthians 10:10-11 KJV ” Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”
~ 2 Peter 2:6 KJV “And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;”
There are many answers to questions for living a good life in the Old Testament. Answers like health and dietary answers. How to handle money and prosper financially. How to conduct business. How specializing in a field is better than a ” Jack of all trades”. There are a lot of answers to our “how” questions.
And if the new contract, the New Testament focuses not on the laws, rules and regulations but focuses on our spirit man, why do some denominations, some churches, set up their rules? If the New Testament is dealing with our spirit man as we explained in our post ” 2 “, why do some churches tell us we can not have long hair and be in “their” church? Why do some separate the men from the women and force them to sit on different sides? Why do some say women can not wear slacks? Why do some say you can not eat meat between certain dates? Why do some say you can not go to a movie (godly movie or not)?
Why do churches or denominations or even religions load their followers down with a list of dos and don’ts? Rules and regulations? There is an answer, do you know why? 2 Peter 2:3 KJV “And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you:….” ( Feigned words are invented words, imagined words).
And people who do not understand saved by grace through faith put people in bondage to their rules, their denomination, their religion so they can control you and your life. They set themselves up as judge and jury when God is the judge and jury.
The whole book of Galatians explains our liberty in Christ, our freedom and we are warned by Paul Galatians 5:13 KJV
” For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Our life as believers under the new contract is all about our spirit man, not our flesh. If you live in the spirit, walk in the spirit and are led by the Holy Spirit, you will not be focusing on what your flesh wants, your flesh desires or how your flesh wants to sin.
Believers, true believers, have liberty in Christ. We do not seek the desires of the flesh but are more spirit man focused. And that is why some believers end up martyrs willingly. Friends, it is not about your job, your house, your money, your circumstances, it is about growing up spiritually – your spirit man taking control of your flesh, not your flesh controlling you or your mind.
Galatians 5:16-25 KJV “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Until next time.
