Balancing Spiritual & Carnal Part 6
God has given all believers gifts and spiritual gifts if you believe it or not. We are to use these gifts in our flesh, our body, for our work in the body of believers and we use the spiritual gifts to increase the kingdom of God. God clearly makes a distinction in his word. Now we are going to get into some meat and this may mess with your denominational teachings, but if you prayerfully ask the Lord for wisdom, understanding and knowledge from his word, God does answer our prayers.
The gifts God gives all believers to work in the flesh, in their body, is explained in all of Romans 12:1-21. And why did God give us these gifts to use in our body, our flesh? Romans 12 explains we use these gifts in the body of believers. Let me try to explain what the Lord has shown me in plain English.
Romans 12:1 speaks about our body, our flesh, and no where in Romans 12 does the word spiritual or spirit appear except in one area where it says in verse 11 we should be fervent in spirit. Fervent means excited, glowing. All of the gifts mentioned in Romans 12 are gifts for our body, our flesh to use in the body of Christ, the church.
The body of true believers, the church, is made up of a lot of people given gifts by God to work in the church to benefit other believers. Romans 12:4 KJV
“For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:”
The word “office” is our job in the body of Christ. These gifts for our body to use, (our work in the flesh) are explained in verses 6-8 and then Paul tells us how to use these gifts in the church in verses 9-21. What are these gifts for our body, our flesh, to use?
Romans 12:6-8 KJV “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhorting ( to strengthen by words, to warn or encourage ), givers, rulers, those who are merciful, mercy. And all of these gifts are to be used by the body of believers for believers. There are 7 gifts mentioned.
When we say these are gifts given to believers, from God, that means everyone in the church does not have the same gift (s). That is why some people are great with understanding prophecy and others like to give to help believers and others are great at ministering to the believers and some are very good at teaching.
When balancing our spirit man and our flesh, these gifts deal with our flesh. Then we find out from God’s word that not only do we have gifts God gave us to use in our body, our flesh, for the church, but there are also spiritual gifts.
Spiritual gifts are for our spirit man to use. For these spiritual gifts to be truly from God they are used with true believers. Another words, those with a quickened spirit man. Remember when we said, so now we understand there are two types of people on earth, those with a dead spirit and those with a live spirit? God gives spiritual gifts to those with a live spirit man towards God.
Those who claim to have spiritual gifts and are not quickened, truly saved, are counterfeit. Remember, Satan can counterfeit just like he did when Moses met with Pharaoh and turned staffs into snakes.
God gives true believers spiritual gifts that work with the believer’s spirit man in the spiritual realm, where we can not see. Why? As we said before –
It is about the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit not only being our Comforter and Teacher but how the Holy Spirit works through our spirit man and gives us power in our spirit man for the Kingdom of God. To magnify Jesus and do the will of the Father. And this is key to balancing our spirit and our flesh.
And when we read God manifests the Holy Spirit to all true believers, God is telling us he is making the Holy Spirit known to his people, believers. Believers can choose to believe it or not. But God not only told Paul to instruct us is the gifts for our body, our flesh, in Romans 12 but also instruct believers in the gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12. Right after Paul addresses the flesh in Romans, the very next book addresses the spirit man.
1 Corinthians 12:1 KJV “Now concerning spiritual gifts , brethren, I would not have you ignorant.”
God does want us to know about these spiritual gifts. And here is where Pentacostals and I differ. One of the key teachings of Pentacostals is you have to be “baptized in the Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues”. But Jesus said we would be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not in the Holy Ghost. This matters because this is not about us summoning the Holy Spirit for a healing service. Jesus never had a healing service but yet he healed people.
If I may repeat myself – It is about the Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit not only being our Comforter and Teacher but how the Holy Spirit works through our spirit man and gives us power in our spirit man for the Kingdom of God. To magnify Jesus and do the will of the Father. And this is key to balancing our spirit and our flesh.
There is a simple explanation and you will understand the gifts of the Holy Spirit from a scriptural teaching and how balancing our spirit man and flesh works. We will pick it up from here next time.
Until next time.
