Jerusalem

The importance of Jerusalem. The scripture, among many other scriptures, explain Jerusalem. The scripture is Psalm 48. We are told Jerusalem is:
~ the city of God Almighty verses 1 & 2
~ God is known in her palaces ( who is her? Zion ) Who is Zion? Jerusalem  verse 3.
~ the city of our Lord verse 8
~ God establishes Jerusalem forever verse 8.
~ We are told God’s temple is in Jerusalem verse 8.

There are many scriptures that tell us Jerusalem is the city of God. As names change for cities throughout thousands of years, Jerusalem was first called Salem during the time of Abraham.

Notice who Melchizedek is in Genesis.
Genesis 14:18 KJV  “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.” Melchizedek was king of Salem (Jeru-salem) and he was the priest of the most high God.

Different people captured Jerusalem over the years and God always intervened to help his people recapture the city. Joshua captured it in Joshua 10 and later King David conquered Jerusalem and Jerusalem was called the city of David. Read 2 Samuel 5.

God is known to mankind in Jerusalem.
Psalm 76:1-2 KJV  “In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel.
[2] In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.”

The Messiah would come to Jerusalem. The King of all kings. And the prophets told Israel who the Messiah was and we know, from scripture, he is Yeshua, Jesus the Christ / the Messiah.
Zechariah 9:9 KJV  “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.”

Jerusalem is not only important to Israel but Jerusalem is important to Christians as well. And Jerusalem belongs to God and Israel.

It appears that Turkey, Syria and Jordan have at some point controlled Jerusalem or parts of Jerusalem in the 1500s through the 1800s.

So when Israel declared her independence in 1948, eastern Jerusalem, including the old city, was conquered by the Jordanian legion. A Jewish community was living in that area for generations. Jordan destroyed that community and killed many of the Jews.

In 1967 Israel was attacked and conquered all of Jerusalem in what is known as the 6 day war. During the time from 1948 until 1967 – that 19 years is the only time Jerusalem was ever divided according to historians.  Now, Israel’s enemies for thousands of years are trying to take bit by bit of Israel’s land away until there is nothing left for Israel.

If you look at a map of the size of the neighboring countries around Israel and compare the size of Israel, one would have to ask, why not have the neighboring countries slice off a portion of their land instead of slicing land away from Israel? Israel’s neighbors want to get rid of Israel, that is why neighboring countries do not slice off portions of their land. And all that land was given, by God, to Abraham as God told Abraham in Genesis 12:6-9; Genesis 13:14-18 and other scripture.

Jerusalem plays an important role in Bible prophecy and we know King Jesus returns to Israel. We also know before Jesus returns, the temple of God will be rebuilt. We know this because scripture tells us the Antichrist sits in the temple of God. The Antichrist can not sit in the temple of God if the temple is not built.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-14 KJV  “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
[2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
[3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come , except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
[4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
[5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
[6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
[7] For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let , until he be taken out of the way.
[8] And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
[9] Even him , whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
[10] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
[11] And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
[12] That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
[13] But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
[14] Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Keep Jerusalem in your prayers and Israel. Jesus Christ is not an American. Jesus is a Jew and Jerusalem and Israel belong to God and Israel. No one has a right to give Israel’s land away. And this summer is Jerusalem’s jubilee. Fifty years Jerusalem has been in Israel’s control as a sovereign nation.

Under Jubilee, watch the temple mount and the news from Israel. We are witnessing God working today. Be sure you have made peace with God through the blood of the cross of Christ. Are you ready to meet God, face to face? Until next time.
