Scripture tells us to renew our mind and to live in the spirit, walk in the spirit and be led by the Holy Spirit. So let’s try to put this together.
We look at the outward appearance of people. The outward appearance shows us a person’s flesh characteristics. We see if they can see, hear, taste, touch and smell. That is all we see about people unless we look deeper.
To go from looking at man’s outward appearance to looking deeper, we have to go through their heart. The heart is like a thin line that allows or denies access to their soul, their mind, will and emotions. We penetrate the thin line of their heart by getting to know them, their loves, their hate, their likes and dislikes. They decide if we can have access to their affections, access their reasoning, access their emotions. Another words, if we can access their soul, their mind, will and emotions.
Most people live here. They make friends and enemies based on what they see physically with their eyes and if they can penetrate the thin line of their heart to access their soul. Once they access their soul they learn of the person’s imagination, their conscience, their reasoning and their affections. Then they decide if that person will be their friend or enemy, their husband or wife.
They base their decision on what they see with their eyes and accessing someone’s soul. And because, to access someone’s soul you have to penetrate the thin line of that person’s heart which includes affections, your heart can be deceived.
Because our heart can deceive us our soul can be deceived. Remember, our soul attributes are our imagination, our conscience, our memory, reasoning, affections. An example would be, someone you think you know very well all of a sudden does or says something out of character and you are shocked. Then your conscience begins to bother you. Or your reasoning is wobbly. Why? Because you thought you knew that person well. Then you realize, you could be wrong about them.
Most relationships are in this category. Why? Because they are based on what the flesh sees and what the soul sees. You can not see someone’s soul unless they allow you to penetrate their heart. And if they allow you to penetrate their heart, giving you access to their soul, you still are missing the real them. Why? Because the spirit is the breath of life in mankind and you have based your decision on what you see in the flesh and their soul not even considering their spirit man.
I heard an expression a couple days ago that went like this. People look at the wrapping paper of others. Very few take the time to unwrap the paper and then dig for the treasure inside. You see, people are packaged in all different kinds of wrapping paper. Once you unwrap their paper you see their heart and soul. But you have to dig inside them to find the treasure and then bring their treasure out into the open for all to rejoice.
Every person God created has a treasure, from God, inside them. A gift. A talent, an ability. We have to take the time to unwrap their paper, find out what is under the wrapping paper and then look for the treasure. Then we can bring the best out in people. It is not as easy as one might think.
The treasure is spirit. Why? Because the treasure was given to the person by God.
1 Corinthians 2:12-16 KJV ” Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned.
But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
We will pick this up from here next time, Lord willing. Until next time.
Does God’s will for you line up with your will? What is your will and how do you determine your will? What is your will? Is it an emotion? Usually when you ask people about their will for their life they tell you – to get a decent job so they can provide for their family and have some comforts in life.
But man’s will is defined as, “That faculty of the mind by which we determine either to do or to forebear an action.” So how do we determine if we will do or forbear an action? Usually by the judgment of the action. Example – if you rob a bank, you go to jail and loose your freedoms. So based on what the judgment is if you rob a bank, you determine, in your mind, your soul, if you will rob a bank.
When it comes to God and his word, scripture says you are either saved or lost. What determines if you are saved or lost? What you do with Jesus Christ.
John 1:12-13 KJV ” But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
When we use our free will and choose to believe on Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour we become a child of God and our names are written down in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 20:15 KJV “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Those who use their free will to reject Jesus Christ, according to scripture, are not children of God.
John 8:42-45 KJV “Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.”
Many of my readers know, when I got saved I did not love God, I did not love Jesus. I had read about hell and the lake of fire and it scared me. I did not want to go to hell or the lake of fire. I would have done anything God asked of me to not go to hell. And all God asked me to do was believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. So I did and I told him I did February 2, 1983 at 10:52pm at a dining room table at a pastor’s house.
I didn’t love God or Jesus. I didn’t know much of anything about Jesus or God the Father and I never heard of the Holy Ghost. Then I went out and bought a Bible and a 5 subject pad and told the Lord I guess I need to learn about you. I started in Genesis and started writing down everything God taught me, one on one. Just him and me.
As I read how God protected Abraham and Israel and learned about God’s character and personality, I started to fall in love with God. Then when I saw Jesus in the Old Testament and read the New Testament, I fell in love with Jesus. Then I began to understand questions I had for God.
Even though I could not see things with my physical eyes, when I took myself out of the picture and tried to look at things from God’s viewpoint, I could see a Master Builder. I could see a loving Heavenly Father and a sacrificial Saviour redeeming mankind. I could see the Holy Spirit comforting believers and working through believers one person at a time.
Our will is in our mind, our soul. If we do not renew our mind, change our thinking to line up with God’s word, our own will runs our life. We choose and determine if we will let go and let God steer our life and trust him to guide us through the straight and narrow path or if we will run our own life.
We can be as close to God as we choose. Our will to learn, know and love the Lord determines how close of a relationship we have with the Lord. He is willing, are you?
And as believers, we are told what the will of God is for us. 1 Thessalonians chapters 4 & 5 list 30 things that are the will of God for believers. See if you can find all 30 things.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-18 KJV ” For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;
 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-28 KJV ” But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men .
See that none render evil for evil unto any man ; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men .
 Rejoice evermore.
 Pray without ceasing.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
 Quench not the Spirit.
 Despise not prophesyings.
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
 Brethren, pray for us.
Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”
Until next time.
2 Corinthians 5:12 KJV “For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.”
There are many who put on the appearance of a believer but they only appear to be a believer on the outside. By their looks, their actions in public and their words in public you would think they are a believer in Christ. Paul tells us in the verse above, they only appear to be a believer but in their heart, they are not a believer.
Salvation is two-fold, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth as Paul laid out in Romans 10:9,10. Those Paul is mentioning in 2 Corinthians 5 are not believers, they only appear to be believers.
We know the flesh wants to sin against God. Paul shows a list of things the flesh wants to do in Galatians 5.
Galatians 5:17 KJV “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”
Then Paul lists 17 things the flesh wants to do in the following verses in Galatians 5:17-21. As believers, we are suppose to “reckon” our flesh is dead unto those things.
When we get saved, our spirit man is quickened, made alive unto God. We become a new creature according to – 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV ” Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
As a new creature, we still have our mind which is part of our soul. And, as a new creature, we still have our fleshly body. Being born again did not deliver us from our mind. It did not deliver us from our flesh. God uses Paul to tell us how we are to handle our mind and our flesh once we are born again, saved.
So here we are – a new creature in Christ in our spirit but we have our old mind and we have our same fleshly body. Now what? God tells us we are to renew our mind with the word of God. So renewing our mind is God gives us a new way to think. What we thought about everything before we are saved changes to line up with what God tells us, through scripture. And people get so steeped in religion, they cling to traditions and doctrines of men and they do not want to follow scripture. Then they wonder why their spiritual life is bland. Change your thinking and believe God.
For the flesh, we are told to bring our body ( our flesh ) into subjection. 1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
Paul says castaway, not salvation. Another words, if you are doing things in your flesh, your body, and telling others not to do the same thing, will people listen to you? No, they cast you away and call you a hypocrite.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says we are a new creature in Christ. Everything inside us is new and the old is passed away, died. Being new does not deliver us from our fleshly body. This fleshly body fights against God. Our flesh desires need to be brought under subjection or else your flesh will carry you into places your spirit man does not want to go. That’s why after you sin in your flesh, you regret what you did. And Satan always tries to get your flesh going and your mind stirred up all with the goal of getting you to act against God. Why? So he can accuse you of failure. Satan is the accuser of the brethren.
Revelation 12:10 KJV “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”
Friends, in your mind you need to get rid of the guilt, shame and thoughts of what you did in the past and focus on who you are in Christ now. Renew your mind with scripture and don’t give place to the devil because he will mess up your mind, confuse you and get you to doubt God and God’s word.
Your flesh has its own desires and those desires fight against God. We need to bring our body into subjection to God. We accomplish that by prayer, getting God’s word deep in our heart and learning to control our flesh and mind. Control your thoughts by quoting scripture. Remember what Jesus did when the devil came after Jesus in the wilderness? In Matthew 4, Jesus responded by quoting scripture that applied to the temptation. Do likewise.
Until next time.
Romans 10:9-10 KJV “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Notice there are two things God tells mankind he must do to be saved – believe in your heart and confess with your mouth. Notice there is nothing mentioned about what you think, your mind, your soul?
Frequently I hear pastors say to their congregations at the end of a service, ‘Say this prayer’ or ‘Repeat after me’. Where do these pastors get that from? It is not in the scripture. No where in scripture are we taught to say a specific prayer to be saved. Read it for yourself, it is posted above, Romans 10:9,10.
A lot of people have said a prayer and think because they said a prayer, they are saved. But that is not what the scripture teaches. Scripture says we have to believe in our heart and confess with our mouth. Salvation is a two step process we could say. First step – believe in your heart. Second step – confess with your mouth.
Notice, there is a head heart connection because God tells us, if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus. What is confessing the Lord Jesus? Is it saying I confess the Lord Jesus? Look at both verses together.
Confessing the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead – the heart believes unto righteousness and the mouth speaks or confesses the righteousness, God raised him from the dead. This is believing and confessing not a belief in God you have in your head, not a belief in Jesus Christ you have in your head, but believing on his righteousness and God raising him from the dead in your heart.
It is believing on Jesus Christ and who he is and what he did to give us righteousness. It is not believing in Jesus. The devils believe in Jesus and tremble. James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
Does that mean the devils will go to heaven?
The heart mind connection is key. People have Jesus Christ in their mind but not so much in their heart. That is why God said to the Laodicean church, you are lukewarm.
Revelation 3:14-19 KJV. “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Of yeah, they say they love the Lord but when God teaches them something or asks them to do or stop doing something, they do not listen to the Lord. We are all guilty but there comes a time when the heart mind connection has to obey what God is telling you. Luke explained it this way –
Luke 8:15 KJV “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it , and bring forth fruit with patience.”
When you know what you are doing or saying does not line up with scripture and what God is asking of you, there is a disconnect. Some people are perfectly comfortable with that disconnect which makes them – lukewarm, others aren’t.
Friends, your mind will play tricks on you so you have to control your mind, your thoughts. Let the word of God dwell inside you, in your heart and spirit. Confess with your mouth God’s word, God’s promises. Why? Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17. If you are not confessing, speaking God’s word outloud, how do you expect to believe in your heart? Until next time.
Daniel 12:4 KJV “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.”
Knowledge will increase at the time of the end. We say last days or end times, knowledge will increase. Many shall run to and fro. Shall means it will happen but it hasn’t happened yet. Put yourself in Daniel’s shoes. God tells you, many shall run to and fro, what would you think? People running around on their feet?
I believe God was referring to transportation. If you sit back and look at the movement of the people in the world today, 2017, it looks like people are running to and fro, catching flights, trains, buses, traveling in cars, boats, airplanes. Daniel knew only foot transportation and horse or camel as a means of transportation.
Sure people experimented and invented means of transportation, but it was at the turn of the 20th century when knowledge increased. Knowledge exploded. For thousands of years man walked or rode a horse or camel. Could you image some of the snowflakes today using a horse for their transportation?
We have seen the steam engine for trains, to automobiles, speed boats, airplanes, rockets, hovercrafts and now, flying cars. And all within a short 110 years. Compared to the last 6000 years, one can not deny, knowledge has increased just as God said it would. But where did that boom in knowledge come from? And why now? Were the people of the 20th century smarter than their predecessors? Were the 20th century people more imaginative? More creative? I think not. Then look at robots, computers, smart cars, smart appliances, the Internet. Today it is called IoT, Internet of Things.
You see, God teaches man knowledge.
Psalm 94:9-10 KJV “He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?”
Scripture also says there is a spirit of knowledge. Remember, there is the physical world and the spiritual world. And in Isaiah 11:1-5 KJV “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord ;”
Knowledge is a head thing. Another words, a soul attribute. Knowledge is information you decipher in your mind. Then you decide if you believe the information and then act on the information.
So why does knowledge increase in the last days? Why didn’t God give knowledge before? He did but in the last days, God gave a lot of knowledge and not just for matters of life in this world, but also in understanding of passages in the scripture. Spiritual knowledge.
But, knowledge can have a problem. Just like in the days of Babel. 1 Corinthians 8:1-3 KJV “Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.”
People begin to trust knowledge over God not realizing, it was God who gave them the knowledge. People start thinking they are smarter than God or they can work the matter out themselves. Then they start turning away from God in pursuit of knowledge. Remember, Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived. Solomon had wisdom and knowledge, 2 Chronicles 1. And in the end, he turned away from God.
Paul says, knowledge puffeth up in 1 Corinthians 8:1. He also says, knowledge will vanish away in the same book chapter 13:8.
I saw an example of God giving a believer knowledge. Towards the end of Paul Crouch’s life, he explained how TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) got into satellite tv. Paul said he was talking to God about the small tv station he started and Paul explained he heard one word from God, satellite.
When you think of the transmitters and receivers and some of the first electronics having tubes and then look at the integrated circuits of today, aka IC chips, and satellite technology, I could only imagine what Daniel or John must have thought. Trying to describe something years in the future (the 20th & 21st century) in 70AD terminology. Before those things were ever invented.
And how God gives believers today, understanding of the terms Daniel and John used is amazing. Knowledge can be a good thing but when people start believing the knowledge more than the Creator who gave that knowledge, they are treading on dangerous ground.
Knowledge is a “mind thing”. A soul attribute. Knowledge will show you good and evil, death and life and it all starts in your mind first. Until next time.
It is no surprise, what you think about, you act on. So how do you determine who can access your mind and place thoughts into your mind? Some people take everything into their mind and thoughts. Good or evil they let everything into their mind. Others filter what they allow into their mind. You can control your thoughts.
We know if we look at the big picture, there is God and then those who oppose God. We call it a battle between good and evil. Scripture tells us the devil works against us and against God. When it comes to man (mankind) God tries to get through to man to cause him to want to choose good, choose God, choose life. God says-
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 KJV “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
And later we see God’s people, telling others, to make a choice –
Joshua 24:15 KJV “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord , choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
We know from scripture, the word of God is seed. So if we chose good over evil, we chose God over the devil, we chose Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we have the seed of God’s word inside us.
The parable of the sower, Luke 8, explains the seed. If we plant seeds in our yard, where does the seed get water? Yes, God provides rain. When the seed, God’s word, is planted inside us, where does it get water? Seeds can not grow without water. Remember in John 3 when Jesus was explaining the new birth to Nicodemus?
John 3:10-12 KJV ” Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?”
And look at what Paul tells believers in
Ephesians 5:26 KJV “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”
So how is the seed, God’s word, watered inside us? Isaiah 44:3 KJV “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:”
The Lord waters the seed. God the Holy Spirit gives us understanding, comfort and teaches us as Jesus said in John chapters 14, 15 and 16.
God may trim us or prune us but it is only because he wants us to bring forth much fruit, not punish us. When you trim your trees do you do it to punish the tree? No.
But into the seed and mind let’s look at where God’s seed is planted, in the heart according to Luke 8:12. And what is the seed going to teach us? The mysteries of the kingdom of God (see Luke 8:10). But notice verse 12 – the devil can take away seed from someone’s heart. You realize this is saying the devil can take something away from you, right? Let’s read it –
Luke 8:10-12 KJV “And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.”
We have to ask, what about the mind? Where does the mind and our thoughts come in to play? Notice the 4 examples in Luke 8. Jesus gives 4 types of people and notice the fourth. They, with a good and honest heart, heard the word and kept the word and bring forth fruit with patience. How do you keep the word? Jesus is not speaking about the law. The law is not even mentioned in these verses. So what is keep it?
Jesus warns in Luke 8:18 – take heed how ye hear. Remember when Jesus told several people, according to your faith it is so? Believers and denominations have a tendency to read and study scripture but when they get to a verse or chapter that does not line up with their teaching or their denominational doctrine, people tend to dismiss the scripture, not believe the scripture or even pigeon hole the scripture.
Which brings us right back to Luke 8. You hear the word of God, seed, in your ears and mind. Your mind decides to believe it or not. Your decision settles it in your heart until questions come up about your decision. Once you settle it in your heart, the seed is planted inside you.
Even with things in life, it works the same way. An example? Matthew 5:28 KJV “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
You see, your flesh wants one thing that is against God but your spirit is now alive unto God (if you are saved) and the seed, God’s word lives and grows within you. That is what Galatians 5:17-21 tells us.
But notice, in Luke 8:12, the devil can take seed out of your heart. Why does the devil do that? Lest ye believe and be saved. What if you are already saved? Lest ye believe. The devil knows, if seed gets planted in your heart and grows and brings forth much fruit, he looses.
So the devil goes after your mind, your thoughts and tries to get you to not believe what the seed is teaching you. Your old man disobeyed God, didn’t believe God, did things the way you wanted to do things, did things based on what you think. But the new you (as a believer) listens to the seed, the word of God.
Transformation takes time. The seed inside you does not grow up over night. So how do we grow up? How do we transform?
Ephesians 4:22-32 KJV “That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Neither give place to the devil.
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
From the inside out you transform.
Romans 12:2 KJV. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
What you think, how you think, the way you think has to be changed. You now have to think like God thinks and you have his seed, the word of God, to teach you how to think and what to say.
Until next time.
If you were to stand back and observe what is going on around the world today, you might ask, has everyone lost their mind? We ask why do terrorists kill innocent people? Why do children shoot up schools? Why does neighbor help neighbor after a hurricane when they didn’t speak much, before the storm?
Something happens to a person to cause them to do good or evil. You can plant good seeds in to people yet some decide to follow evil, why? Whether people follow good or evil, a thought is placed into their mind and they make a decision based on what they think usually. People make decisions based on information provided to them, from an outside source. It doesn’t matter if it is a nation going to war, applying for a job or deciding where to live, all decisions are based on information.
Information comes in to our mind and we make decisions based on that information. When you look at an overview of life, you realize there is good and evil. Some would say you need evil to have good. That is not accurate because God is good and God created all things. Satan chose to disobey God and tried to overthrow God. God gave freewill, Satan chose evil. But that topic is not my focus here.
I had someone say, if I look at your life, why would I want to be a Christian? Granted, they are only looking at an outward appearance but it was a good question. So I considered their comment and I see it as, their perceived information about the Christian life is based on what they see, in this world. It is like people look at someone’s possessions, or their wealth or their influence and decide, from what they see with their eyes, if that person is successful. I use to do that as a young adult in my early twenties. But no longer do I believe everything my eyes see.
So based on their thoughts of what success or wealth is, they determine if someone is successful by what they see with their eyes, in this world. The question is, where did they get their information on what success or wealth really is? Who defined success or wealth to them? Success or wealth can mean one thing to one person and something completely different to another person. Why? Does the definition of success or wealth change in the dictionary? Why can one person see something completely different than another person?
Now that we have laid some ground work, let us look at how information can make us or ruin us. How information can promote us or condemn us. How information can save us or destroy us.
One of the hardest things for man to do is control our thoughts. We are bombarded with information all day, every day. We are hit with advertising, news, thoughts of sin, thoughts of fear, thoughts of anxiety, anger, hatred, love, comfort and yes, thoughts of good and evil. Thoughts of country, politics, leaders. Thoughts of God, church, spiritual matters. When this information comes to us, we either receive or reject the information and we make decisions for our life based on the information we receive.
Remember when Moses sent out 12 spies to spy out the land God gave to Abraham in Numbers 13:17? Moses sent out 12 spies. All 12 spies saw the exact same thing. So why did only two of them, Joshua and Caleb, know God delivered the land unto them and the other 10 spies did not know? All 12 spies had the same information.
Numbers 13:25-33 KJV. “And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land.
And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight”
Even though all 12 spies saw the same thing, because two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, did not agree with the majority in their conclusion, the people wanted to stone Joshua and Caleb.
Numbers 14:6-10 KJV “And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
Only rebel not ye against the Lord , neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the Lord is with us: fear them not.
But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.”
We know, God got upset with the people and made them wander 40 years in the wilderness until they died off except for Joshua and Caleb and Moses. One would ask, how is it fair that Joshua and Caleb had to suffer 40 years of wandering when they believed God. Joshua and Caleb had to submit to God’s judgment on the people and submit to Moses’ authority. But God is a righteous judge and Joshua and Caleb were blessed.
We see similar actions today. Believers sometimes have to suffer through things because of other’s unbelief or lack of action. But God is a righteous judge and protects and blesses those who trust him.
The question is, why did 12 spies all see the same thing but only 2 spies saw victory? All 12 spies made a decision based on the exact same information. The answer is in how all 12 spies processed the information. And where do we process information? Our mind. So 10 of the spies were defeated in their mind. They let their mind defeat them and convince them they could not win. The 2 spies, Joshua and Caleb, knew they could not defeat the people but their trust was not in themselves. They believed God. They believed what God said and God would deliver to them the land.
A few posts back I mentioned how people try to manage the things in their life. But when a hurricane comes along, you can’t manage the wind, you can’t manage what trees fall or where they fall. Only God can manage the wind.
When you face things that seem impossible or hopeless remember, you win or loose based on your mind. You can say scripture but if you do not believe in your mind and heart the scripture, you let your mind defeat you.
God has plenty to say about our mind. Let’s look for real answers together. Until next time.
