Give Glory To The Lord

Psalms 96 kjv

O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

2 Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.
9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
13 Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

The gods of the nation’s are idols saith the Lord. Then look at verse 13. Until next time.

Building Blocks Of Life Part 4

We drew on a piece of paper Knowledge/Information in the upper left corner and Understanding/Comprehension  in the upper right corner. And Wisdom in the Center half way down the paper. We looked at Knowledge and learned how Knowledge is Information. Information from God and information from the world.

There is all kinds of information out there in life. We have to discern truth from error.

Understanding is defined as the capacity of the mind to comprehend, to grasp or seize information. Understanding is not just of the mind,  but also of the heart.  Understanding is a faculty of the mind and the mind is a part of the soul and the soul is made up of our mind, will and emotions.  Understanding takes information and processes it through our mind and our heart. Understanding is comprehending information.

A lot of people get information. Fewer people understand the information. But many people lack how to apply the information and that is wisdom.

Why would Solomon ask God for wisdom? Solomon wanted to discern truth from error and apply truth. Back then, kings and today our leaders get information and they understand the information but properly applying that information is wisdom.

In 1 Kings 3:7-10 KJV,  “And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10. And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ”

Then these two women come before Solomon. One woman’s child died so she stole the second women’s child and put her dead child in place of the other’s. See 1 Kings 3:16-28 KJV and Solomon hears the matter. Here is the account –

” Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him.
17. And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18. And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19. And this woman’s child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20. And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21. And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear.
22. And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.
23. Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof.
28. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment. ”

Put yourself in Solomon’s shoes. How would you decide?  Solomon applied information he knew, a mother’s love for her child. A mother would give her child up if that was the only way to protect her child. Solomon understood / comprehended the issue. Two women were claiming one child was their child.

So Solomon refers to the information and knowledge he knows about mothers and their children. Solomon knows God and he knows God would not want him to kill this child. Solomon has information and understanding of the matter. Now it is time to judge the matter. How would you judge this matter?

Look at verse 24 through verse 28. Solomon applied the information and understanding of the information he had. Plus God showed Solomon how to apply the information.

We hear preachers and teachers of God’s word give out information all the time. These preachers and teachers of God’s word try to help us understand God’s word. But God’s word does not come to life inside us until we believe and receive God’s word and then apply God’s word. Application is wisdom.

Remember when we looked at the definition of the fear of the Lord is to hate evil? Wisdom in this case is to hate evil and apply that by removing yourself from all appearances of evil and we battle evil forces as Paul explains in Ephesians 6.

When believers do not know how to apply God’s word, they lack wisdom. And scripture tells us, in James 1: 5 – 8 KJV

” 5.  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. ”

Knowledge = Information
Understanding = Comprehension
Wisdom = Application

Until next time.
